I do carry round (sometimes) a mini tripod and a clamp with a tripod head.

I bought the same tripod about a year ago. It's lightweight and solid. I didn't use it much until I bought the Sigma DP2m. The two make a great lightweight combination. As you know, the tripod really helps given the lack of high ISO capabilities of the Foveon sensor (at least in color).

The DPM looks really 'right' on the Sirui ... and pretty stupid on the Manfrotto! 😛
The DPMs really are good on a tripod ... particularly when focusing manually in the zoom view mode ... pity there isn't some way to trigger the shutter remotely!

Long time tripod user here. When I shot stock landscapes I used a tripod for nearly everything from 35mm to 4x5.
These days I still pull out the old Bogen 3201 from time to time, most recently (and most often) in combo with the M7 and 90/4 Macro for this project.
I've also got a Zone VI wooden tripod for the 4x5, had that since about 1987 and it is going strong just like Fred said it would be. My jumbo Bogen for the 810 & 1114 is their biggest. A beast, but rock solid no matter how tall it gets.

For LF, I want a Ries wooded tripod to replace my old and creaky Bogen.
For any other use, my compact Slik surprisingly kept its lock and composure after all these years. It can handle anything from tiny E-P2 to the Bronica S.

I have one, but it's too big and heavy so it rests under my bed. I have been thinking about buying something smaller that I actually bring along and use. Very few of the things that I photograph are likely to run off and all of them would benefit from more care in the composition and focus stages. Or maybe I just throw that idea to the wind and say "fuzzy is the new sharp"! 🙂

It's funny how we obsess about resolution from various lenses, worry about the detail from our flat bed scanners compared to dedicated 35mm scanners etc etc. Camera shake is THE biggest enemy of sharpness IMO and a tripod takes that factor away very simply. The Merrill really brings it home when you use the loupe in SPP to look at an image shot from a tripod compared to hand held. I'm not really someone who obsesses about sharpness or detail though ... I just like the control a tripod gives and the way it changes your pace.

I'm going to try out one of those Siruis because of this thread. Have two tripods since before, but they are big, bulky and heavy; hopefully this will do me better service!

Everyone has different tastes. I use the original Benbo, the Uniloc copy that's about two thirds the size/weight and the Benbo Trekker monopod. Wouldn't be without any of them!
