I tell them it's like buying dope: you have to know where to go and who to talk to....

With best regards.

A lot of people are amazed that you might still use a film camera, that film is still made, that it has any future, that you can buy it locally, and that you can have it commercially processed. Then when you show them one of the shots on your iPhone or email them one they are completely dumbfounded. "But wasn't that taken on film...????" And these are the champions of modern technology.

I always end up having to explain the current state of film every time people recognize the Leica. The Rolleiflex is even worse! And in my age it's seems to be more of a statement to shoot film rather than a preference.

I sometimes shoot portraits of people who are interested though.

Try going out with a Mamiya C330 or Yashicamat 124G. Then you'll get some looks! It's hilarious!

Most of the time I'm asked for - are they still manufacturing film? I answer, but giving no details. If I will told them what it is manufactured in UK, it will make them believe what I'm delusional antiglobalist.

It happens to be stopped and questioned about my film camera... I usually told them that I have to travel all over the world to find those rare films and that it takes several days to develop them.

:D

Most people seem to think film isn't made any more. I tell them getting it is no problem, that B&H sells around 300 film products on their website.

I had that conversation with some people a couple weeks ago when they saw my F2 around my neck. "Is that a film camera? Where do you buy film? How do you get it developed?"

Film is dope.

I recall looking at a short movie shot on film and a comment recalled: Too bad it might even be more expensive than drugs!

I've had the oohs and aahs but ai do not recall putting attention into this question. I answer my lab or through internet, which has it all!

On eBay.... a few simple rules

Seller has a high incidence of feedback.... mostly film
Feedback is spread evenly over time.
Feedback is 100% positive (and yes there are lots of those people out there)

For instance, I bought 158 packets of quickload, and readyload, refrigerated from an apparent film dealer.... Paid $125 plus shipping and good results so far. That's under $1 per sheet for 4X5.

My basic rules pretty much assure a seller who refrigerates their film. I buy both current dated and expired film up to ten years. Good experience again, so far.

I also buy my film at a local real, live camera store, and have it processed and printed there. Doing my small part to help them stay in business.

With best regards.

I live in a metropolitan area with 5 Million people and there is no film to be found. B&H and other online retailers are my only option. :(

Tell them it came from a newly discovered cold war Civil Defense shelter that was unearthed. Hey, make it a tall tale.
