Now that my good friend Irving closed down Raleigh Camera here in Brooklyn, New York, I can't get film! The biggest city in the world, just about, and you can't buy film! Amazing. I went into a 1 hour photo and they want $10 a roll for c41 B&W film-Irving charged half that. Processing is a problem now too. Mail order?

Hi Scott, yeah I've been to B&H. I bought my first Contax II there . A couple of years ago they remodeled, and got rid of about 90% of their film stuff-replaced with digital and consumer electronics. Their darkroom supplies were cut to almost nothing, and their film deparment is small now too. They used to have cases of outdated or near out dated film all the time-$1 a roll in some cases. They used to have a great "junk" department too-meters, cameras, everything in need of repair. I bought a Pentax spotmeter for $20-and repaired it easily. The good old days are gone.

What about mail-away processing? Stu

I feel blessed- I can not only buy film locally, but E6, C41 and "real" black and white can be developed in 2 hours by people who care-and I get to choose from several.

I am amazed you can't get film in NYC!

Wow. Where do you live?!

I agree, I like B&H for film (mail order) and I also use J&C for some B&W film. Color slides I send to A&I or have them done locally if i'm in hurry, and B&W I process myself. I rarely shoot color print film.

Massachusetts-near Amherst/Northampton area, where there are 5 colleges and a LOT of photographers, apparently.

I have no clue where that is, but I do know that Massachusetts is a beautiful place. I've only visited Boston sometime ago, and do plan to transfer there in the next couple of years.

Lucky you! 🙂

Can't find film in NYC!

C'mon, I live here and know B.S. when I hear it.

Manhattan (espescially Midtown) at least is chock 'a block with photo stores - all of which carry film.

I can get B&W negs with a thumbnail sheet for $6.00 at an overpriced shop (oddly called Soho Photo even though its on 3rd Avenue at 48th Street).

Perhaps it's time to put down the beer glass and get out a bit more?
