for a much produced Nikon RF model , how come very few come up for sale?
they must be much loved by their owners.

Did you say Nippon Kogaku
Jenni's arm could be twisted for the right price
Please note the Highest production Nikon rangefinder camera, The Nikon S2, was produced 50 years ago...56000 cameras is not too big of a number anyway, considering the amount of cell phones that are being sold each year these days.
Here is one I spotted in Yahoo Japan:
http://page18.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/w11410008
For now it's 55,000 yen(under $500).

Under 500 USD sounds as a good price - I bought mine from Robert White for 450 UKL about a year ago but when searching for a S2 back then it was not easy to find them.... I couldn´t find any here in Sweden and even if there were a few on Ebay.com I had to search for some time to find one I felt Ok to buy. Then I got a S3 through the classifies section here at RFF.
Buying from a fellow RFF member seems to be much safer than just looking at Ebay....

They represent the classic Nikon RF of the classic rangefinder era. Easy to load, easy to use, and design that owes a bit to Contax and Leica, though more angular than the M3 of the period.

i have an S2 that I'm selling as i need the cash for a D3. i was going to wait until november, but most places are requiring a deposit just to get on the waiting list.
anyway, it's in very good cosmetic condition, perfect operating condition, the lens (5cm 1.4) is clean and clear, and comes with the original leather case, replacement strap and replacement lens cap. i'm almost positive that this camera was in a drawer for 60 years until i bought it a year ago. this is not a "black dial" version.
some photos of and by this S2 are here
if anyone's interested, feel free to message me.

Welcome to the forum, you should put an ad in the classifieds with those pics of your S2 and maybe a price.jmc said:i have an S2 that I'm selling as i need the cash for a D3. i was going to wait until november, but most places are requiring a deposit just to get on the waiting list.

S2s sell very well here on the RFF if they are fairly priced and in good nick.

I had one not too long ago. Traded it in for a mint Leica M4. A lovely peice of machinery, but I found the focussing to be too slow for my tastes and so never really gave it the workout it deserved.
So... I mostly see them in the hands of specialist dealers, who will charge you your soul and first-born for them.

The outfit mentioned above did 94,000 yen....not too bad considering it had the box.
here is one on ebay with a reasonable starting bid of $475.00

There is also Andreas right here on the RFF:

Not bad @ $500
especially with that full colon after the serial number of that 1.4

I just gave up on ever finding a reasonably priced user S2 and today bought a new Bessa R2S for $414. Now I can use that wonderful Nikon glass again.
