Where are they?

Perhaps. But he is known and that counts for something. I don't like Bruce Gilden, but you can't discount his fame.

Craig Semetko doesn't seem to have much of an internet following. He has little more out there than the greats. Weeks you could argue is more internet fame than anything, the anti-Eric Kim, I guess.

There's also quite a bit of lesser known stuff coming from LA from photographers who might one day be well regarded and "famous."

@ back alley...

Quote.. ''.. but I really wanna be rich and famous !!''...

You're famous here on RFF for a number of reasons, Joe - how much more fame can you handle ?

As for becoming rich, have you considered prospecting for gold - far easier than making money from photography, I've heard... (!)

...for a number of reasons...do i want to know?

Today; where are the Winogrands, the Joel Meyerowitz, the Elliot Erwitts?

Are they in us?

I would ask the question slightly different... Today; where is the audience for the Winogrands, the Joel Meyerowitz, the Elliott Erwitts ? Where are the iconic "Life" and "Time" where the photos of the famous were published that made them famous ?

These days we have blogs, and "street-photography workshops" held by guys who are good at self-marketing by writing a blog ...

The question used to be- How did he do that? Amazing!

Now the question is- What I do is more amazing than anyone's, why aren't I famous? I deserve it!

Spot on... and it makes you wonder if those who think they are better really know how to see.
