Where can I buy/process Provia 100f in Southern Europe?

Hi all,

I'm going to Europe from mid-September to mid-November and I need some advice on where to buy and process Provia 100f during my travels. My itinerary is as follows:

London/Paris
Barcelona/Costa Brava
South of France (Provence + Cote D'Azur)
Athens/Greek Islands

No problem in London (Silverprint) or Paris (Negatif+) but what about the other destinations? I will be moving around quite a bit so I was hoping to find some credible labs to buy/process slide film from the Barcelona leg onwards.

In addition, this will be my first trip to Spain/Catalunya. Is it an issue that I speak zero Spanish/Catalan. I will be there for 10 days.

FWIW, I will be taking 2 x Leica M7 + 35 'Cron+50 'Cron.

Buy in your own country and process in your own country. I'm assuming you have ready access to slide film where you are now.

Good advice I think. In a couple of weeks I'm travelling to San Francisco, Hawai'i, and Sydney, but I would not even attempt to process films in any of those places. It just adds hassle to the trip, process once you get home and you can choose your labs at leisure.

I'm currently living in Paris and you can buy/process Provia in negatif+, i use their services for C41 and E6 development and i'm happy with the results.

As of Barcelona, there was a group of photobloggers that compiled a map of the different labs in the city.

The ones I am aware that develop E6 are: 24x30, ColorVif, VMFoto, Visualkorner (they also sell film), EGM
I haven't used any of them, and can't comment. Despite studying in the city, I haven't shot much film lately and taken time to find the labs.
ARPI and Casanovafoto are dealers.

As you are on a trip, unless carrying lots of undeveloped film, developing in site can be a bit of a nuisance as it takes you time and deviating.

How many days will you be here? I think that in 3 days you are able to see most of Barcelona
Be sure to visit some Costa Daurada too, Sitges is a must. Take a train and it's easy.
If you need any directions concerned I'd be glad to help. I love when foreigners ask me for directions while heading for the station. 🙂

As of the language, if you get off the beaten path (Pg de Gràcia to the port) many locals don't talk english; Learning some basic vocabulary will be fine.

Normally, being on longer travels, I send my exposed film rolls back home (or directly to my usual mail service processor). Never give them to a not known local labor.

...and thanks to those of you who mentioned Photostock in Paris. I was not aware of this place so I will give them a try.

For those of you who mentioned I should bring my own film, I am concerned about putting film through so many machines at the airport (I am in Sydney so I have to pass through 3 airports before I get to my first destination in Europe). Is this likely to be an issue these days with 100 speed film?

Any ideas about where to buy/process Provia in Greece?

Not gonna matter with even 10+ scans.

Basically, you'll have a higher chance of film getting screwed up by unknown labs or trucking it around developed than you will keeping it undeveloped, in the canister, and do it all when you get home at a lab you already know.

It seems like the best option is to buy film from B&H before I go (much cheaper than Europe). I will process the first few rolls whilst in Paris just to check that I'm exposing correctly and also to check that nothing disastrous has happened, like rangefinder misalignment. The rest I will either process when I return home or I will ship to Peak Imaging in the UK (they are a great lab) for processing and return shipping to Sydney.

As far as Athens is concerned, you may try the following:

1. Stavrinakis e-photodigital, Patision & 19 Veranzerou str., Athens (http://www.aa-digitalphoto.gr/) has Agfa Precisa 100 (rebadged Provia 100) for 5.5E. Often you can find Provia 100 itself, but it's costlier (over twice the cost of Precisa I should think).

2. Another option is Skiadopoulos, 12 George str., Athens (http://www.skiadopoulos.gr/contact.htm ). That's where you may develop your slide as well -- it takes a day or two and the cost is 5.70E per roll.
