A bit of an odd first post. I bought a leitz rangfinder tele elmarit-m 90/2.8 unseen as I had hoped to convert it to A-mount for my sony/minolta system. The seller had told me that it was for his fathers slr system, and as the registration for the slr system is longer than that of minolta it should have been no problem to convert. However when it turned up it it was a bit smaller than I expected being a later model (thin) elmarit rangefinder and the registration distance was nowhere near engough to convert to A-mount. Well at least not without hacking parts of the primary helicoid, which i dont really want to do to such a nice lens. This was a real shame as it is an absolutly beautiful lens. I dont know what has been done, perhaps the coatings are just fantastic but what I imagined to be an older lens looks better than some of my new, supposedly top quality glass.

Anyway to cut a long story short, is there a good place to sell this type of lens. I would really rather stay away from ebay if i can. especially as there seems to be no rhime or reason to the pricing. I saw the same type of lens go for 650USD in one auction and 100 in another?!?!

Many thanks for the help

You need to find somebody with a Sony Minolta A mount camera.

Tell them it was your father's lens.

And convince them they can have the lens adapted.

Easy.

Thanks Davey, for some reason i had expected it to be under the forums if there was one here, one of those duh momonets 🙂.

Claremont foto, LOL, there are quite a few of us about. Watch out minolta is going back to its roots with leica lenses. Have you seen this?

It will also be about my 5th conversion, actually 2nd for a leica. So far mine have been mostly nikon (hard to do) and leica micro (easy to do) 🙂. But it gets kind of addictive, especially over winter when there are not so many subjects about.

There are even chips available so as you can get AF confirm (similar the upgrade to the 90/2.8 lens i got).

I'm impressed with your workshop knowledge; and your good sense of humor.

From your first post I had thought you were on the wind-up. Now I know you're bang on, as we British say.

Yes, the classifieds here are pretty good, if stuff is priced right it sells in a day or two. Although people generally prefer to buy from somebody they 'know', so you may wish to mention some of your credentials.

Sorry Jon, i thought i had put a link in my sig too, and will sort that out in a mo. The poor guy that I bought it off was not "technically minded" as he put it. I think his father was a bit more, as seeing some of the equipment I bought he really liked his hobby.

Here is the picture he sent me,

It was quite a mystery getting any kind of information out of him, apparently it was a leitz 5.5 (because of the filter adaptor on the lens).

So when this turned up I was just glad that it was not from a projector, although a little bitter sweet as I had been hoping to use it on the A-mount.

Now i am worried that i have mislead you, that post is not mine, just one i was especially interested in.

I am actually in love with the glass, and one day to get a leica macro is my goal/dream. It was possible to get some shots through the 90, but i wwould have lost infinity focus totally, and would feel guilty butchering the lens.

This is some of my stuff shot through leica glass on a sony body...

I hope it works as i have just changed host this morning.

Hi Tim,
I bought my tele elmarit a few years ago and it cost £395 which was about the price at the time. The price appears to have dropped to about £200 at the present. The lens seems to suffer from a bad 'press' as there is a batch that had problems with the coatings on the rear group. It also has a problem with flare if the lumination is within the frame. Notwithstanding this it is a very nice compact lens. I have no plans to sell my copy.

Cheers

Hey Jon, well your reply was very funny anyway 🙂. And the advice apreciated as much as the humor.

Normclark, thank you, that was the next question. How much should I ask. As far as I can see the lens is in perfect condition. It has a leitz 39mm UV filter, rubber lens hood, 5.5 filter adaptor and leather case all mint too, but no lens caps 🙁. Another problem is that I am in Denmark and our postage is quite expencive, it will probably cost about 12GBP to send abroad insured and recorded.

If I dont want to charge too much, i got it for a little less than I should have paid and prefere it went for little less and to a good home than fleesing people on ebay, concidering that it is in such nice condition what would be reasonable?

I have some photos of it here, but they may not work, my knowledge of PHP is non existant and my new host does not let the user define directory listing privalidges so fingers crossed the script works and the listing is visable.

Thanks for all the help all. It looks like it is not going to be for sale after all that, a friend has offered me a body that I cant refuse 🙂.
