Where shoud I develope film?

Hi,

Does anybody would be able to recommend a good place that I can develope film in New Jersey area?

(professional works with good price)

I have tried 2 places and they all have some residues on film. : (

Without trying to sound sarcastic, the answer is in your kitchen if doing BW. You control the quality yourself and it's cheaper.

At home, if you want any degree of control at all over your photos. The darkroom aspect is at least as important as the camera aspect of photography. Unless you can control the development and printing processes pretty carefully, things like pushing/pulling your exposures, the zone system, and a few hundred other very important techniques will be forever out of your reach.

Oh, and BTW, residues wash off.

Ummmm, perhaps a little more information would be helpful to those with knowledge of different labs in the area. For example what sort of film, what format, what delivery-time requirements, what budget ? Do you plan to post the film, courier the film, drop it in personally ? etc etc

It's for color film developing and as long as the developed 35mm color film doesn't show some kind of residue, I will be happy.

The time is not in rush and I'm hoping for regular market price. Drop it or mail the film would be the choice.

Yup. in my darkroom. Color and black/white. Unless you have a good pro lab for the C41, it WILL get screwed up.

If you are looking to have color film developed - believe it or not - Costco or WalMart will do a good job.

Oh, and they won't be sacrastic about it either.

One of these days, maybe I'll finally take the plunge and learn to do it myself, but in the meantime, I've been quite happy sending my B&W negatives to Dwayne's Photo for processing. Turnaround is quick, they charge about 3 bucks a roll for processing (36 exp 135), and if you send them a bunch of rolls at a time, you can save on shipping. They also do a good job with color C-41 (same price, 3 bucks/roll for processing). If the order is large enough, the cost for dev + shipping per roll for C-41 works out a little bit cheaper than doing it locally for me.

I do agree. However don't expect something professionnal, you might see little scratches on the film which f¨ck up the scanning process.

If you develop BW films, do it at home; it's quick, safe, cheaper and gives you the opportunity to master your work. 🙂

I like Dwayne's Photo as well. Not in NJ but if you're willing to mail order anyway...
I also very much like that they will do decent scans of what they process--slides, C-41, and silver based BW.
And I love getting the big envelope back with al its attendant surprises!

I have started using Bergen County Camera, in Westwood and Engelwood. Excellent quality and service - astronomical price.

I tried using Walmart once, but they refused to make me prints, since we had a picture of my wife breastfeeding. I have not been back there. I have had pretty good luck with CVS and Walgreens, but there is a major blotch from time to time. I use Snapfish for C-41 now, and no complaints so far. BW at home, but less and less. I am looking for a good place to get my chromes done locally. Trying a Motofoto this week.
