This is the first I take my M6 for some asian action in HongKong. I do still bring my Canon dslr, but I'm planning to shoot alot with the M6.

I'm already stocking up some Fuji pro slide and reversal films to take with me, but do you guys know if there're any shops in Hongkong where I can buy Fuji and Ilford Pro films? If I suddenly run out?

Thx!

Ive seen some sellers on ebay selling film and shipping from Hong Kong, maybe you could contact them and see if they have any locations in case you need to pick up some.

Off topic, what parts of Hong Kong are you thinking of shooting?

Check Stanley street in Central. There's a pretty well-stocked store near the building with a Starbucks in it. I forget the name (I just walk on in without paying attention), but there are some pretty big Fuji signs on it. I get my Ilfords and Tri-X there, as well as some Ilford paper.

Thx guys!

Thanks guys for your quick reply. I have had experience before with some camerashops in Mongkok when buying equipment but that was back in my digital days (yeah technology in reverse) and didn't look for any analog films.

I'll try to check some shops in Central or ask around.

I'm planning to travel throughout Hongkong, doing a small documentary photo project for myself. Capturing streelife and some interesting aspects of the Hongkong society.

If someone still have some killer adresses please post them here =) Maybe handy for future reference also.

Hai everybody I'm back from my trip to HongKong and I can assure you there are still plently of shops left that sells film (mostly Fuji en Ilford). ManShing and WingShing in Mongkok sells all kinds of Fuji Pro films (135, 220, B&W, E6 and C41) and sometimes they have some japan import films to try out (eg. Fuji Natura1600).

For the analog Leica enthousiast you should check Stanley street in Central, there are many photostores for analog purists and they are some Leica dealers too. To process your films there's a good pro lab with decent pricing in the same street (ColourSix Lab)

Hope that some people find some use with this information =)

Stanley Street in Central has about a half dozen shops that sell photo gear and film. There's one (the name escapes me now) that's worth checking out for vintage Leica gear as well. Last time I was there they had an M6 Safari on display.

That'd be Kinefoto probably, or the one across the street from it.

To be honest, I go to Stanley Street most often out of convenience but Man Shing and Wing Shing in Mongkok have every store there totally beat for film prices.

Hello there,

Restarting this old thread, hope that's fine!

I am going to HK this coming Saturday and would like to check where to get film. I live in Japan and pretty much everything is available; the reason I wanted to buy film in Hong Kong is for the better price (which I hope isn't only a dream from my end).

In Japan, the price of TMAX 400 was increased about 100% this past June and if I could find some cheaper sources in Hong Kong, I'd like to buy there.

Do you guys know which store should I should go to and moreover, what is the price of the following in HK currently?

TMAX-400 120 5rolls (in Japan it's ~$40USD)
TMAX-400 24 135 (in Japan it's ~ $6.5USD)

Thanks a lot,
Ben

You can try Dot-Well - http://www.dotwellphoto.com/site/

Tiny shop with alot of old cameras, camera repair and films.

Thanks, sent them an email and waiting for confirmation. The site seems really outdated so I am wondering if the prices posted are current. Even if they are, they are only slightly cheaper than what I get in Japan.

I should have bought a truck load of TMAX400 before the May price increase, but unfortunately I didn't hear about it and missed it therefore.

Any other places in HK i must visit?
Will be interesting if the protests keep at it until I land into HK.

Hello there,

Just to post back, I have never heard back from Dotwellphoto but decided to go in anyways. It is film heaven, if you guys are ever in HK, Dotwell is a must. I actually went back twice, bought all the TMAX 100 and 400 films they had in stock as it is 20%+ cheaper than it is in Japan since the May 2014 price hike.

Cheers once again for the tip!
Ben

Not sure if you're still in HK and want to buy more film, but Filme in causeway bay http://www.thefilme.com/ has a really huge collection, supposedly the biggest in the world. Plus if you're a cheapskate like me they often have a bargain bin of recently expired and often pretty obscure films.

Thanks, I checked their site but see no prices etc.

I am back in Japan but will have a layover in Hong Kong on the 15th and 22nd of Nov so I can go into the city for a few hours.

Are you familiar with their prices?
At Dotwell I got the following deal:

TMAX100-36 35mm for $40HKD
TMAX400-36 35mm for $48HKD
TMAX400-120x5 for $220HKD

Attaching some images from Dotwell if you guys are interested. Sorry for the iPhone shots.

Ben
