Hi, I'll be in L.A. for 3 weeks in march.
I was just wondering if someone could recommend me a good shop for leica used lenses and/or voigtlander lenses somewhere around there.
I seriously consider buying photo gear during my visit since dollar is so cheap...
Best regards.
Frederic

You should be in LA long enough to hit one or two of the big camera shows. See this site
www.cameraquest.com/socalshows.htm
Also look for Paul's Camera on Hawthorne or Camera West in Mission Viejo.
You may want to check out kevincameras.com This is really not a store, but if you pick something out on line, you can pick it up at his office in downtown LA. His prices are at the high end. But he also has stock you will never find anywhere else.
Trader Jim's in Culver City has some items.
While in the LA area you should check out the California Museum of Photography in Riverside.

Isn't Tony Rose (Pop Flash) in the L.A. area? Does he have a physical shop, or just an internet "store front"?

Really? I was just there and Trader Jim's has either moved to another location, or has closed. Their old storefront was being remodeled for what looked like a signmaking business. With a brand new Samy's down the street in the old Allied Model Trains building... I feared for the worst.

It's sad to hear Trader Jim and the model train store have closed. Is Steve's Camera Repair still there?

Steve's repair shop is still there, and has several cases full of old goodies that are NOT for sale (I drooled over and asked about a couple items

Popflash is in Thousand Oaks, about an hour west of downtown Los Angeles. Tony is great to deal with and carries used Leica lenses as well. Just give him a call and make an appointment to stop by.

Cannot say enough good things about Tony Rose. I bought my 75 Summicron from him right before Christmas. He is fantastic. Doesn't have a storefront, but if you shop for or buy something online, you might be able to make an apointment to pick it up... or just have him ship it overnight to where ever you are staying.
Samy's has used lenses too, but it is very hit or miss on selection and the M8 revolution has made them scarce. I also shy from Samy's these days.
