Where to develop film in NYC?

For basic stuff, Bleeker Digital on Bleecker between Broadway and Lafayette. Pretty much a one man operation. Really nice guy. He used to work at Duggal. I stopped giving Duggal my money after one too many bad experiences with their sour, arrogant staff.

Imagination Photo does the cheapest B&W developing I could find in NYC. Now I do it myself.

Only doing B & W these days, but I went to Yardley in China town (at 41 Bowery, in that little cove by the Manhattan bridge)for the last few rolls of color film that's left. They seem reasonably priced.

Things have changed since 2011. Print Space no longer develops film.

I use Vista Imaging but I'd like to find another place as the negatives have consistent 'splotches' on them whenever I get them back.

Phill Photographic in Philadelphia has the lowest prices in the region and outstanding QC. I've never gotten a bad image back from them. Yea, they're in Philly but they are half price of the NYC places.

This place is good. I've been using them for over a year now and my negs always are in great shape. Pricing isn't bad either.

Some mom and pop shops, Bushwick and Gowanus community darkrooms do processing

I still like CRC Vista and LTI Lightside

They are great, but Duggal somewhat less expensive. However, and I know this is a form of paranoia, I am always somewhat afraid large labs will lose my film.

I still get the student discount at Duggal. Once you are placarded as a student the discount seems to be lifetime. Sometimes computer errors are good and work in one's favor.

Chelsea Photographic on 24th St develops and scans my B&W and C41 film. Owner Michael Amoruso also makes my silver gelatin exhibition prints (for those rare exhibitions). They do a great job.

This thread comes back at a perfect time for me as I've just ditched my ICP card and decided to go down the hybrid approach with my films to complement my digital workflow.

That print in my livingroom was printed by Chelsea. It was a great negative that basically was a straight print even though it was a night tripod shot. Because I used Acros and a compensating developer it has a long tonal scale and midrange.

I was really flattered that the printer also printed another print on warm paper to complement the print on cool paper I had ordered. Basically I got two 18 1/2 inch square prints on 20x24 for the price of one. I figure because the negative was that good and easy to print that it required little effort to make the second print.

Anyways Chelsea is a great custom lab.

Know that I will keep on just making negatives and will be holding out until I can set up a darkroom. Basically I annoy a lot of people this way. No scanning for me; I do digital digitally with Piezograpghy; and I do analog-all analog.

Michael is also a fine photographer.

Chelsea has been expanding into fine art digital printing as well.

Many thanks for giving me the inside information years ago. I also love the vibe that is just the opposite of Duggal. I always felt like an insider at Chelsea and with the print I mentioned above I also got an 8x10 test print.

Where to develop film in NYC?

I've been using Luster on ave A by my work. I only develop e6 there but they have done a good job at it. They seem to be pretty busy with film orders when I stop in so it looks like their chemicals should be fresh. No scratches or anything on my negatives and a decent turnaround time. C41 I just mail out in bulk as it's cheaper. Black and white is a must develop yourself kinda thing.
