Where to find a RD-1s?

Placed an order for the RD-1s on Ebay with sell2ppl and he says there are none available at this time. Anyone know of a source? Thanx.
 
Why not purchase an RD1 from Robert White (approx. $2250) and use the June firmware update to turn it into an RD1s?
 
I'll look into it. Really have it bad after reading Sean and others! How does the 'firmware' upgrade work? Something I can do myself at home?
 
Presumably, there will be a download available from Epson's web site--copy the files to an SD card, stick the card in the camera, etc.

Yes. You download the firmware update from the Epson website when it becomes available to your computer. Load it onto your SD card and insert it into your camera. The firmware will upload to your camera from your card. Instructions will be available as well when the firmware update is available.

If it's anything like any other firmware upgrades, then "yes" you can do it yourself. Stick the firmware on your sd card and put in the camera. The camera should find it by itself, or else there may appear a new feature in the menu. Load the firmware according to the instructions et voila, new R-D1. :)
 
It's supposed to work in the same way you would update a DSLR. Copy the update onto your SD card and go from there. The RD1 is an incredible camera, regardless of what you hear from those who don't own one. Good luck with whatever you decide.
 
Maxed out my Visa and placed the order to R White. Now the waiting begins. Any good sources for SD cards and how large of a card will it accept? Thanx for everyone's help, I'm going to love this camera.
 
I use Sandisk Extreme III 1GB cards, although I have read that others are using 2GB cards with no problem. You probably want to get the fastest card you can, because of the Raw write delay issue on the camera. It's really all a question of personal style. It's a really intuitive camera if you've been using rangefinders for awhile. The waiting the worst part! Congratulations on your purchase.
 
Maximum card size, according to Epson is 1.0 GB, which is exactly 100 raw photos. That is about equal to the battery life, if you chimp a lot, which I do. So I would carry at least 1 extra battery and SD card. The Epson battery seems to give better results than most 3rd party batteries. As for cards, some people have been getting larger than recommended 2.0 GB cards to work, although I haven't tried that.

Can hardly wait now guys! Good thing I didn't read the 'vertical alignment' thread before I placed my order. Might have scared me off. Have been using an R3a and M7, which I have come to love. Shoot Scala a lot (have a stock of 25 rolls to use) and the 'feel' (what else can you call it?) of the RF images is otherworldly. But am getting 'scanner fatigue'. Want to shoot a friends upcoming wedding with the Epson and ?eventually the Digital M. Thanks for your encouragemant. Love the RFF Jorge!
 
Yes, Sandisk Extreme III 1GB cards.

BTW, get some spare batteries, preferably the real Epson one's.
 
The rangefinder issue is no different than any other Cosina products. For that matter, any rangefinder products.
I have 2 extra 1GB cards and 2 extra batteries.

There is a download on the uk site for a patch to accept 2gb cards.
I have downloaded it but not istalled it.

Really? I fell a bout of GAS. And I mean, the Vulcan-grip chilli cookout kind.
 
What UK site? Has anyone tried this? It would be very nice to have a 2GB capacity but I wouldn't want to endanger my current functional firmware.

I also have an M7 along with the R-D1 and am actually very pleased with the feel of the R-D1 images. I have one with an RF alignment issue but do not regret buying it at all. It's actually off to Epson right now getting fixed/replaced. Ironically my M7 is also off in Germany getting repaired as well. So right now I am sans camera...except for the F10 but it's just not the same. One quick comment on wedding photgraphy. While the R-D1 does lend itself well for wedding photography beause of it's inherent unobtrusiveness, it does lack the shutter stealth of the M7 (in my opinion). You may want to do some tests first before commiting on using it for the ceremony portion. Congratulations on your purchase, I am sure you'll enjoy it.
