Was wondering where I can find an RD-1/RD-1s these days..
I see them occasionally pop up on the classifieds here, ebay, and see one listed @ photovillage.

My question is though, I keep hearing people catching deals and getting one for well under $2000USD, and was hoping I could do the same. Any ideas where I can look? I am NYC-based.

As soon as this is posted, I bet it will be gone...... but.....

Epson...-> Clearance -> DigitalPhotography

There's a Refurbed r-d1 fot 1550...

I have gotten pretty close to pulling the trigger a few times but I'm currently saving up for some lenses and I'm happy with film + darkroom || V700 scanner. If you get it, you'll be doing me a favor as its been tempting me..

Oh yeh... in NYC there's a few places that have the r-1ds brand new. Just over $2000 so its regular priced.. but they are available.. just dig around abit.

Yes.. a good deal.. but if you have alignment issues ( or something else) there's no one to go to in person... you gotta deal with Epson directly over phone/mail/email... which is kinda of a bit of risk.

Oh yeh.. fine line states.. no returns or refunds.

I've been so tempted by it that I've never really bothered to post it anywhere.... oh well... got better places to spend the $$$ and the M8 is a long way from being "worth" it in my arsenal.

Photovillage has one. That's where I got mine. No problems and they agreed to adjust the rangefinder for 90 days if something is wrong.

B&H gets them once in a while as well.

ssshhhhh .. I'm heading to village photo tomorrow....:p

actually to look at a few used/new lenses that have peaked my interest but if that r-d1 really impresses me.. you never know.

There is probably still an R-D1 at Calumet Los Angeles (323.466.1238) They were nice enough to have it sent from San Francisco (where there may be another) so I could examine it. I forget who to thank on this board who posted about the San Francisco availability (you bought one.congrats). They then had a Leica lens sent down as well when no M lenses were to be found in their store. All this just so I could try out the focus and take a few pics.
They were asking $2409 but came down to $2250 when I pointed out that it really was a demo, as it has a small nick on the top front edge that runs up from the analog dials to the hotshoe. The computer showed their original cost as $2400.
While the lens was on the way I found a used one and was able to trade my D70 kit as partial payment. Waiting for delivery...
Just want to add that one advantage might be the one year Epson warranty you would still get with the "demo" model. I decided to gamble a bit on the more affordable used one with a 30 day warranty.

I ordered one yesterday as well! I called to confirm the order early today, and everything seems to be ok. I guess they have several refurbs in stock. For even more savings, you can use the coupon code "6ZTCAXFP" to receive an addition 10% discount. Coupon is valid until the 31st.

Hard to know how many they have but we know a number were sent back with shutter and finder alignment problems. These have been selling used for $1,800 + so for $1,550 and a 1 year warranty I'll take my chances, wish me luck.

Now to find some lenses

Looks like I spoke too soon. Epson cancelled my order. They claimed that they could not verify my account information with my bank. But when I spoke to my bank rep, they said that the transaction was already authorized from their end.

Epson probably just out sold their stock, and decided to cancel my order :(

There web site now says out of stock, the order conformation they sent me matched the serial # listed on there web site so may be they only had one? Might not hurt to send them an email and ask if they are getting anymore in stock.

Hi Stephan,
I got mine used from B&H Photo for $1800. I saw it come up and snagged it immediately. It was in like new condition. Everything is fine. The only thing is the framelines are just slightly tilted to the right but not a big deal. Its a great camera. I just got two extra batteries from Calumet. I almost bought one new from Calumet for $2400 (plus tax!) that's $2600...lucky I didn't as I saved $800. I would buy it at PhotoVillage.or wait because there will be more on the market once the M8 hits..

I ordered a refurbished one from Epson's website. But they cancelled my order without warning, and now they are out of stock. My guess is that they over sold their limited stock of refurbs.

I was at photovillage the other day. Got to handle the r-1ds they have for about $2100 (used). I kinda like it... doesn't feel like a Leica but hey.. it isn't. Felt very similar to some of the bessa rangfinders but a bit larger on all dimentions. The viewfinder allows for focusing with both eyes open which I really like. The analog dials are freakin cool! Reminds me of the high end chrono-watches that were the rave in the 80s. Shutter is a bit loud compared to a typical Leica. Overall felt like an oversized bessa with a digital back. Nice large display on the back. I didn't like the manual select finder lines at the top... Mentally, it felt strange seeing the digital display on the back and still have to manually advance to the next frame. I flipped the display so I could not see it and just pretended it was a film camera. Got into it pretty quickly....

I was considering it but 2100 seems a bit much for a 6mp used digital camera that is also their loaner. No way to know how it was treated over the use of numerous renters. So instead of splurging on impulse, I purchased what I had originally showed up to purchase and left.

The guy helping me out at photovillage was extremely helpful and nice. I went in right at opening and had a really pleasant time. The shop was all quiet and had time to take in all the information. I left to get something to eat and when I came back it was packed. He still managed to keep me happy while juggling all of the customers...

No longer on their website. I bet they only had one ( lucky you tmessenger ) and their website only gets updated at night. So it was sold but still available to put in orders.

I ended up pulling trigger on the refurb. I fleabayed my newly bot R-D1 to buy the refurb with a one year warranty. I priced it to break even and sell quickly there just to break even and it went in less than a day. I paid only 1395 for the refurb using the 10% coupon. Not quite lotto but heet sometimes you win one. The one I sold was nice in that the RF and frame lines were in alignment. I have to assume the epson one will be ok too. Right now my order shows as shipped (no tracking number yet) so it looks like I am in.
