So I bought a Retina and a Exakta and they are sitting in my aunts house near Seattle. Since I wont be there for a few months still to pick them up I am wondering where might one keep suck things in a house to make sure no mold or fungus or anything starts to develop. I hear that a closet is a bad place, here in China I keep my cameras in a dry box so no problems here.
I am just worried since the optics are so old and so on that in the few months till I get to them that there might develop a problem. Right now my aunt has them sitting on a book shelf in her living room, lots of ain in there, that ok?

If she can get a couple of silica gel sachets, use those and Zip-Loc bags. Otherwise the bookshelf is ideal. Stagnant damp air, preferably coupled with darkess, is the best thing for encouraging mould. Ideally unfold the Retina (assuming it's a folder).

The shelf sounds like a good place with lens caps OFF. Light can help prevent fungus.

You should be fine I have and M6 and M3 that have yet to develop issues and they have just sat on my book shelf when not with me. Its becoming the sunny part of the year here in Seattle ( I know some of you might not know this) but our summers tend to be 70 clear skies and no rain till october! So I wouldn't worry, but bring lots of color with you, because the blue water, green trees, and blue sky are quite photogenic in the summer against the urban sky line.

great, so I guess I wont worry about it then. When I get back to the states I am only bringing slide film (provia 100f) and 400 speed negative (superia 400) with me. Plan to have a film fest, and give me three zeiss lenses a huge work out.

When I stay in Asia, I usually place my cameras and lenses in a tupperware with a silicia gel pack. That way the humidity stays at about 35-40%.

I live in the Pacific Northwest about 60miles north of Seattle and I never have ever worried about fungus or mold here. I leave my cameras in cupboards, drawers, shelves.
There isn't the high humidity here like in China or the east coast of the U.S, As long as they are stored in a normal house rooms not a cold damp cellar, or the like I don't think you should worry about a few months being keep.
