Where to send a IIIc for black paint these days?

I'd like to get a IIIc black painted. Who is doing a good job with this these days?

And is it better to do the CLA and beam-splitter replacement before or after, or find a painter who can do both?

This would be for using, not collecting, plus I don't want to spend more than I have to. My fear is the paint flaking off....

I'd say it's best to get a service carried out on the camera at the same time as you get it painted.

In the UK both Malcolm Taylor and Peter at Camera Repairs and Restoration in Luton ( http://www.angelfire.com/biz/Leica/ ) can carry out this work to very high standards - although the cost may put you off.

a decent iiic converted iiif, with CLA, with black paint will cost you well more than $800.

I can get it done for you here in Korea for $400 plus shipping. CLA or other work not included. Chrome is stripped and paint is baked on, but will look like finish of modern Leica--will be semi glossy and not as thick as old ones.

I had this one done by Peter Grisaffi at CRR Luton last year, together with resilvered mirror, replaced beam splitter and general overhaul. It had previously - according to the guy I bought it from - been CLA'd by Youxin Ye but he hadn't, IMHO, done a very good job and the faster shutter speeds were very erratic. Yes, he does! Peter put a new vulcanite "coat" on my IIIg about a year ago. Excellent work, and a good turn around time, too, in my opinion.

It is better that you telephone him, as his e-mail may not work correctly. Also, you most likely will have to pay him in pounds sterling, using an electronic funds transfer from your bank directly to his.

Not too bothersome for what you get in return. 😛
