If you're on the West Coast, then A&I is probably your best bet. I've used them quite a lot and never any stains, dust, scratches or anything. Pro lab. Unfortunately, they've raised their prices so much that now I'm trying out the Black & White lab in Tucson, which has more affordable rates. $8 to simply develop a roll of 35mm, and another $15 to $35 for scanning (depends on the file size) is way too steep for my blood.
I agree, buy yourself a Nikon V ED or at least a Minolta Scan Dual or you'll go broke. I think accessories are available to do batch scans as well if you don't want to be tethered to the computer the whole time.
