Where would a Canadian buy an RD1(s)?

As far as I can tell, my choices are:

1. from ebay, where it could be coming from Japan
2. from Epson USA
3. other dealers, for example Robert White.

Is that it? It would be an "international" purchase?

And it may take me a couple attempts to get a "good" one?

regards
Vick

Option # 2 (from Epson US) is not an option for the RD1(s) because they don't import it. You'd have to get an RD1 and upgrade the firmware (my personal choice anyway because of reports the RD1(s) lost the easy thru-the-hotshoe rangefinder adjustment). Also I'm not completely sure about this but I seem to recall Epson USA won't allow int'l orders off their site, you might have to have it delivered to someone in the US and them send it to you.

Have you tried calling any of the big camera stores in Toronto, Montreal, Vancouver, Calgary, etc? They may have one or two, or at the very least be able to bring one in. Whether or not you'll like the price, I don't know, but you can ask at least.

Here's a little list to get you started. There are likely many more options...

Montreal:

Leica Boutique - http://www.leicaboutique.com

Calgary:
The Camera Store - http://www.thecamerastore.com

I don't see any point of trying to buy it through a camera store in Canada. I really don't see any advantage to that. The usual advantages such as warranty and repair don't apply in this case. When I bought my R-D1, I did so from B&H, which doesn't sell them anymore. If I were buying one now, I would do so from Robert White. I have had a good experience with them in a previous purchase. This experience is consistent with posts I've read on this and other frames. The posts I've read here say that they will test various things on the camera before shipping it to you.

As an earlier poster said, the Epson Store option will only work if you have someone in the U.S.A. to whom they will ship it. I tried to order batteries there and got bounced off the site when I got zapped in the zip-code part. I e-mailed the Canadian store and never got a response. (I didn't try the phone, though.)

So if I understand correctly, even for the refurb we can't order from Canada?

*sigh*
