Which 28mm RF Lens?

I have two 28mm lenses, the Leica Pre-ASPH and the CV Ultron 1.9. When I bought the Leica, I originally was planning on selling the CV Ultron 1.9 as I didn't think I needed two 28mm lenses. However, after seeing the results of the poll, and how the CV Ultron 1.9 is either equal to, or even preferred to the Leica, I am having serious second thoughts about selling the CV Ultron 1.9.

I've only in recent times become more enamored of the 28mm FoV. I have both the Ultron f2 and Color Skopar f/3.5. I find the latter is a better lens overall, but does some color shifting on the M9.

I'm considering selling both and going for the Leica Elmarit.

I voted for the Elmarit ASPH, its on my "might want to get in the future if I swap a 35 for a 50/28 combo list" (I know its a long list title, but its informative). I'm a realist, and would never be able to afford the 'cron. I didn't vote for the CV's, I currently have the 35 skopar, and while I love it, the ergonomics aren't quite perfect.

If we could vote negatives, I'd vote against the 2.8 asph Elmarit. (1) IMO it's too contrasty and compromises some shadows or highlights in bright sun. I got one new with M8 but soon exchanged for a Summicron. (2) I don't think the Elmarit is preferable to the less expensive Biogon. I liked the light weight of the Zeiss on my backup camera and am sometimes sorry I'd ever 'moved up' to the bigger & clumsier Summicron. As Pieter said, "Is it worth the price? Don't think so, but in five years I ... have forgotten how much I paid for it."

I also have the original (1.9) Ultron, and find that it renders a lot like my old 8-element (v. 1) Elmarit, but resolves much better at 2.8. It's my 'beater,' to use around sand, thugs, and children. The v1 Elmarits are costly collectors' items now, and my used Ultron was less than $500 (with hood & coded Millich adapter). IMO the 1.9 Ultron is the 28mm user's bargain.

I voted for the 28mm Summicron, which I have and like. If the poll had allowed voting for two, I'd have also voted for my CV f/3.5.

I have a 28 Summicron and a Canon LTM 28 2.8. The Summicron wins hands down. Optically fantastic in every way. The only slight drawback is the size and bulk of the hood.

The Canon is no where near as asharp, it's colors are not so nice, the focus throw is far too long so the tab end up in an awkward place, and the stopless aperture ring is too loose and is constantly knocked off position when you focus. It is apretty looking lens and nice and compact though.

The version 1 28mm Elmarit may be a "collector's item, but it is also a very fine lens, MUCH preferable to the version which followed. I use it a lot. Which I suppose will make it less collectable!

I have the Ultron 2/28. Great lens and for the money it probably can't be beat. Sharp at all stops, good contrast and flare resistance. I haven't experienced any focus shift issues.

If money was no object I would probably grab the 28 Summicron ASPH.

I think what many really want is a Summilux 1.4/28...

I have the Voigtländer 28/1.9, but prefer the ergonomics of the Summicron. Too bad the price difference is so huge.

The 28/2.8 ASPH is ridiculously sharp. Like whoa sharp. If I was still using the M system, I would buy this lens in a heart beat. Makes a great pair with the 50 Summicron, since they share the same filter size.

The lens is also really light! Something you don't see many people mention is the size of the lens. It's still easy to operate even though it is really tiny. Best value in the M system, IMO

bumping this as I won a Orion-15 28mm, didn't want to spend money to get a good 28mm yet since it's not my favourite focal length (thinking an Avenon 28mm or Ultron 28mm next)

any how I was wondering how sharp is the Orion-15 on a digital RF? this will be ironically used on a M240

My Nikkor 28cm f=1:3.5 now has a new home, a Leica iif. Test rolls are in the making waiting only for the weather. Right now it's ether too wet & humid or too hot & miserable ! We get all the good stuff.🙄

for those of you with experience with both the Ricoh GR 28mm (LTM) and Contax G 28mm, which do you prefer? and for what reasons?

i'm deciding between having my Contax G 28mm converted to Leica M mount, or purchasing the Ricoh GR 28mm. if it's anything like the 28mm on my GR1V, then I may possibly go with the latter. but the Contax G 28mm is awesome as well, IMO. it's just that I'd still want to be able to use it on my G1 & G2 (unless I found a 'for parts' one for real cheap).
