I can buy only one of these two books. Which should it be?:
William Eggleston's Chromes
or
Gary Winogrand's 1964
William Eggleston's Chromes
or
Gary Winogrand's 1964

I don't know. I'm bored, thought a polling of the issue would be fun.

Libraries around me don't carry such titles.

Have you read the reviews of these books on Amazon? Each book has good reviews. I'm a fan of Winogrand so I was expecting to be biased toward 1964, but for the money & after reading the reviews you'd be crazy not to buy the Eggleston book. So much more for the money plus this book will increase in value down the road. Much more than the Winogrand book I think. BTW my library carries neither. The bummer of living in a small town.

1964 is a fantastic book, sadly no longer in print. If you can get it at a reasonable price do not hesitate

Get both. In two years you can sell the one you like least at a profit.

Good question. It depends. What other books do you own by them?
Do you have a good deal on the Winogrand? It will always be scarce, so not much risk in that.
I have 1964 (and all of Winogrand's other titles). I am passing on Chromes because I have most of Eggleston's other books and there are just other books I'd rather buy with the money. I may kick myself later for this, though. Done that many times in the past.

I just got Chromes yesterday and this is the best collection of Eggleston's work IMO. Buy it while it is still at a normal price. I'd love to have 1964 though too. Buy them both!

Make a photo book yourself, inspired by William Eggleston *and* Gary Winogrand.

If money is no problem: get both. otherwise: are you a people-photos guy or a still life photo guy? if people: wino, if still-life: chromes.
Though the Chromes books have more people photos than his books usually do. That said, he's not as good with people as Winogrand.
