I can't help you with a confirmed identification - but with the lever-wind and solid back is it possible that he's using something like a Nicca 3F?
(edit: wait, no, that can't be right - the knob around the winding lever, as well as the protrusion on the left side of the camera, both look unlike the Nicca)

A screencap of the camera. The advance lever is certainly un-leica. It looks kind of like a Zorki 6 actually. Edit: take a look at the back of a Zorki: http://www.leitzmuseum.org/CameraMakes/Zorki/Zorki-6-6.html

HCB visited the USSR in 1954. So there must have been some other reason he was checking out a Zorki 5. I kind of wonder what impression it left on him.

Well the whole truth can now be told. he actually only ever used Leica copies.This revelation is gonna change the whole HCB/Leica dynamic round here.....
