Which Contax G body?

I'm not sure if you've seen this - Contax G adapter for micro 4/3 - but it does give hope for using the lenses after the bodies (knock on wood) die off.

Furthermore: The G1 viewfinder does not correct the downright corner for short ranges. The G2 viewfinder does. It sometimes makes a difference.

But all in all I like the G1 more for its smaller package size and better controls. I like the G2 more for the better AF, the AF lock button on the back and the better VF.

I use them with film still. Cannot stand to stop using these fantastic Zeiss lenses.

Interesting, mpve... though I had a G1 briefly, I didn't realize this difference. Is it compensation for parallax, or field size, or both that's lacking?
 
It is parallax correction. If you come closer the FOV need to go to the right and down. The strange thing (but logical from the technical perspective) is that the focus point remains in the same position. This actually means that the focus point is exact in the middle of the VF when focussing infinity and that it is in the upper left quadrant when focusing close.

But you get used to it...

The G series is becoming very very popular with young photographers including myself.

Contax gear is now a real must have. Lots of todays mags feature shots by popular young photographers using Contax gear for that kinda harsh, in your face, point and shoot look. I know plenty of people getting their hands on G bodies with one lens for $900-$1000. I was lucky enough to get my G2 with 45 for $600.

Even with the prices going up, I think the G2 is an amazing deal.

EDIT: Also, look at T2 and T3 prices going up and up. Everyone wants them.

I started with the G1, with a 21mm and finder; I found the images superb, and decided that I would keep the G1 + 21 permanently attached. I now have a G2, with the 28mm, and 45mm on this body. I am very pleased with both these combinations, more so than with my leica M6ttl & 28mm. the G's are faster to use, much much quicker to load and unload, and the metering is spot on. perhaps not so quiet as the leica, but I grtab the shots with the G's, while I am still focussing the M!
