I was pretty gutted when they announced that Neopan 400 was going away. I loved that stuff. Second favorite film after Agfa APX 400. I think I might have cried when Agfa went out of business, I ain't gonna lie.
Tri-X would be the obvious choice. Eastman 5222 is a touch slower and you have to give it generous development because it is pretty flat, but it is a contender too. HP5 is a little cleaner than Neopan. In Rodinal Neopan and 5222 are really close.
I have never been a fan of Tri-X. Not sure why. I have used a ton of Eastman 5222 over the years and I get along with that pretty well. Currently I am using 5222 because I have a ton of it and got it cheap, but when i run out of that I am planning on just using HP5. That will always be around.
Foma isn't really the same. Much grainier and has a glow. I haven't tried the other ones like Bergger and Orwo.
Hope that helps.
