I need a favorite
It's been ages since I used B&W film. Panatomic-X is gone. I guess my new favorite might be among the 10 rolls of Delta 100 or 7 rolls of APX 25 in my freezer.
We shall see.

As above, Tri-X from 200 upwards in Xtol.
Pan F for slow film.
Still have some rolls of Acros to try, just haven't had a chance.
Not keen on 35mm FP4 or HP5+, like them both in 120 format.

HP5 for everyday film but I really enjoy neopan 1600 rated at 800 for night time.

I shoot more FP4 than anything, but have been warming up to HP5 lately. I develop both in Rodinal.
I also mean to tinker with Fuji's Acros 100 since I shoot a lot of long exposures. I don't know what to expect in terms of grain, but good reciprocity failure figures could be SO useful...

If I could have one film only it would be neopan 400.

Ilford XP2 and Fuji Neopan 400CN are my first choices for 35mm B&W film.
It's the flexibility of being able to take it to the local wal-mart for processing that appeals to me most.
For 120 stuff I currently have stocks of SHANGHAI GP3 100iso / Kodak Tmax 100 and a roll of Tri-x currently in the camera. The verdict is still out for 120 as I haven't shot a lot of it.

Like beers, can't say I found one yet I really hated or I couldn't find something to like about.
High Speed (1000 - 1600 rated) Tri-X in Diafine. (I think this combo is amazing, personally) Tri-X is my desert island film due to its versitility. You can rate it or soup it in almost anything.
Don't throw rocks but I really like T-Max 100 in D76 too. In fact, I don't see why people diss the T-Max stuff so much. I think it's beautiful, esp. the 100.
FP4+ very nice, esp. in Rodinal.
HP5+ also nice, like the rich blacks...
Not a big fan of the Acros films but don't hate them either.

Well, I give another vote for PlusX in D76. I really like the tonality. I guess there aren't too many of us out there. My father used to use it 30 years ago and I still like it to this day.

Magus, what did you find real speed of Neopan 1600 to be? 800-ish?

Naïve question and opinion:
Do you have a single favorite film, and always the same, regardless of the lens you use, or do you have favorite film/lens combination?
For instance, I prefer to use TriX with my Summitar, and Neopan 400 with Elmar or Summicron. Is that irrational?
Need you opnion.

I notice that Delta 400 isn't very popular and I was wondering about the reason i.e. HP5, Tri-X and Neopan 400 are clearly far more popular. I have shot some Delta 400 and it seemed pretty good, with very little grain for the speed. Anyone got any thoughts on this?

Delta 400 is a fine film, but just not versatile enough to be (my) favorite. It feels a tad slower than 400, is relatively picky about developers, and without remarkable look/tonality. That said, I would certainly be able to shoot my stuff on a stock of D400 alone: it's a fine film, just doesn't feels the best.

Make photos, not war.
That's an answer I didn't expect shutterflower, you must be quite a fan of infared film.
Do you shoot much of it?

The vast majority of my concert photography work is on Neopan 1600, usually pushed to 3200 or even 6400 (not much light in most of the small venues).

I really, really like HP5+. I love its tonality, and the exposure latitude it has amazes me.
I shot some of Kodak's P3200 a while back and really liked that, although it's not very versatile in older cameras unless you're shooting in the dark.
Other than that, I quite like FP4+ (although I know people who dislike the way it scans).
The chromagenic films always seem to be pale imitations of "proper" films to me - I never liked XP2 as much as I liked HP5+, although that might be due to my exposure or its development at the lab I guess.
