Hi people,

I am back asking for more advice.
Have been shooting mainly 35mm TriX and would like to try some 35mm ISO100 films.
So many out there and i am not sure which one to start with. I use both rodinal and D76

There are no shops within a 300km radius that sells any ISO100 B & W films so i'll have to mail order them. Thus i don't really have the luxury of buying a few of each and experiment.

Your experience and advice would really help............. as it has been 🙂

Mabelsound: Heard good things about the ilford deltas but i am trying to stick to conventional films for now.

Johan: Fomapan 100 classic looks interesting. I think Freestyle has it...might consider.

How about acros, arista and legacy pros?

If you want to match the tones of your 100-speed film with your Tri-X, try Plus-X - Arista Premium 100 is the same thing.

Any non epitaxial or flat-grain film will work fine in either Rodinal or D76. In fact the epitaxial (Delta) and flat-grain (TMax) films will work fine in either too, but they might take more work and in particular more attention to exposure and processing variables.

I wouldn't say it's unconventional. Part of my Fomapan justification is that it was $18 for 100' on Freestyle a few months back.

I haven't worked out the TMax100/Rodinal combination yet.

My vote goes to ACROS 100 and either in Rodinal or home brewed Beutler 1:1:10/7 min. For some reason I cant get along with the Delta 100, but I do like FP4+!
There are a lot of 100/125 iso films and I would just get one of the "major" ones (Kodak/Ilford/Fuji) and start shooting with it. It usually takes some rolls to get settled with one - your personal way of exposing/developing etc. But once you got that licked you are set.
The main reason for going with a major name is that you can count on some consistency in quality and hopefully, that it will remain in production for a long time!
The odd ball choice here could also be Kodak's +X 5231 Movie stock - comes in 400ft cans (about 70 rolls) - remarkable mid-tones and can be rated at 80-100 iso. If you are going to have to have it shipped anyway - a couple of cans of this will keep you for awhile!

Acros 100 works beautifully in Rodinal. Haven't tried it in D76.

Acros in Rodinal

Tmax 100 works in both D76 and Rodinal very well.

Tmax 100 in Rodinal. EI-50 This film won't give full 100 speed in Rodinal, but is very sharp and beautiful tonality

Another Tmax 100, EI 50, in Rodinal

D-76 1+1 on Tmax 100. Full speed, nice tonality, not quite as sharp, grain slightly finer.
