Which item do you always carry and never use?

Reading Diggin99's thread on the items we always forget, I'm sure there are folks like me who carry stuff around "just in case" and never use it. My best was a 50mm Summicron I took to New Zealand a couple of years ago. It was used for a total of four frames which could easily have been cropped down from the 35 I used all the rest of the time I was there.

What's the dead weight in your bag?

Hi! I can say that for me its actually film. When I go out with my gear I find that there are really just a few shots that I want to take, then I am left with options that seem not ideal. So I will go out, take shots that interest me and have like half a roll left. Then I can either take shots that don't really interest me to take up the roll, or end the film early. I hesitate to just keep the film in the camera and wait to use it another day because I don't want to put more than one lighting situation on a roll. More often than not I end up rewinding the roll so I can go home and develope it. Maybe I should start rolling really short rolls! Oh and also I never seem to want to use my external meters, I end up guesstimating!

Most of the time, the camera.

It's with me 80% of the time and gets used 10%. The lightmeter is used once in a blue moon if I take it. I don't bother with other lenses, I only ever have my 50mm on the camera to hand.

I always carry but seldom use a short telephoto/portrait lens in my SLR kit.

As to my 35mm RF kit, I now know better and don't even own a tele.
In fact I seek to further simplify by "downgrading" to a fixed lens RF camera...

Have a collapsible Elmar 90mm 4.0 that I just have taken a few test shots with .. and since i hardly uses a 90mm I´d borrowed a 90mm Tele Elmarit that works as a space keeper too .. but you never know when your going to take a portrait . . 😉

There's extra stuff stored in the bag... lens & body caps, filters, cable release (useless without a tripod too!), a viewfinder for a wide lens when I just use the camera's whole window... And spare batteries are almost never needed but smart to have anyway.
