Which lens(es) do you have on your leica(s)?

I have a 50mm Summilux LTM and a 90mm Elmarit-M for my M3.

Then, as "collateral damage" from the purchase of my Leica II, a Summitar 5cm (which I love), an Elmar 9cm/4 and two "dogs" a Hektor 135mm/4.5 and a Hektor 2.8cm/6.3 (which is a rather funny, in the peculiar sense of the word, lens).

50 Summilux v2 is now on the M6, and I think I'll keep it there for a while. It is such an amazing lens. 35 2.8 Summaron is in the cupboard, next to a Canon 28 2.8. That rounds out my 'hits from the sixties' 3 lens kit. The 28 Elmarit I've after much deliberation finally decided to sell.

Yashinon 5cm 1.8 on a Canon IVSB

I usually end up with a 50 on a body at the end of the day. I thought that may be an indicator that I use 50s more than anything. It may also be because I often stop shooting when light is waning and 50s are my only moderately fast glass.

1. Leica Summicron 50mm v3 - have it because I bought it with my first Leica (M6). It's my favourite lens. It's the lens I use all the time on the M3 and lens I use most on the M6.

2. Zeiss ZM 28mm 2.8 - bought it used after getting an M8, as with the crop factor the 50mm became too narrow for general photography. Actually ended up using it more on the M6, especially for buildings and landscapes.

3. Leica Summarit 35mm - was never that happy with the 28mm on the M8. Much happier with this on the M8. Really impressed by this little lens and its performance.

Currently 50mm is on M3, 35mm on M6 and 28mm on M8. No plans for any other lenses any time soon, maybe a 75mm or 90mm in the future.

I currently only have one M: the Leica M3. It has a 50mm Nikkor H-C f2.0 mounted on it. I find this to be a great general purpose lens and (of course) the 50mm focal length is what the M3 is designed for.

Leica Summitar 50mm f2.0
Leica Elmar 90mm f4.0

All of these lenses are LTM, as I prefer the more classic rendering.

Lenses:

35 Summicron f2 Version 4 This is my all around lens for most things, especially on the street.

50 Summilux f1.4 Version 2 This is the lens I use for low light and a change in perspective.

90 Elmarit-M f2.8 Use for closeups where I really can't get any closer. I find that I don't use this lens nearly as much as I thought I would. I think that I may at some time get a 21mm again so that I have 21,35,50. In reality I find I use the 35 most, followed by the 50, then the 90.

The four oldest are from 1951, 1954, 1957, and 1960 and they are functional with the rest all produced in the last 10 years.

Also sold a dozen Leica, Voigtlander and Zeiss lens along with a few others lens and a couple of camera bodies in the past year or so to help fund ongoing changes.

Not sure if I look at owning them as much as rentals for a period in time.

As the head bartender states on his web site: "15 lenses of each version in both silver and back for every room in your house is a wonderful choice ..." Certainly do not need them all and admire folks who can simplify with a small kit but I am a pack rat and always reluctant to remove something I am not using in case I may need it some day. My favorite focal length is 50mm, except of course the days I am using something else.

I have my M6 with a Summilux 50 (pre Asph)
on the M8 I usually have a Summilux 35 (pre Asph)

If necessary I switch to an Elmarit-M 28 Asph or the Heliar 15.
During a healthy trip through southeast asia this proved to be all I need.

Several other lenses in the drawer will be sold in the next time:
Summicron 50, Summicron C 40, Elmar 21 (old 60mm Version), Summarit 1,5/50 LTM, and Elmar 4/90 collapsible are fixed to go.
Maybe also the lovely Summaron 3,5/35LTM and Elmar 2,8/50 will have to go.

I must be the only Odd-Ball with every focal length covered between 21 & 135, except for the 24mm. Also I'm the only one right now that lists both the 90 & 135 Apo lenses. I wonder why that is? I use the 90 for portraits with correct perspective and the 135 for anything that the 90 runs a little short on grabbing. Combine a .85 body with a 1.25 or 1.40 magnifier and you can really see what you're doing. Surprised that other posters haven't don the same.

I think most of us took it to mean which lenses on the cameras now, like the how many cameras currently loaded with film, how many lenses for an outing, what's in your bag, your travel kit etc threads. I, for instance, could see your 90 and 135 and raise you two 25s, but they're not APO or summicrons and I don't have 28 and 75 so you would probably still win.

Not having certain focal lengths is more often a considered choice than lack of resources. Choosing a rangefinder over an SLR is already a similar choice. Richter did not record all of the Beethoven Sonatas, and he did not perform all of Bach's Well Tempered Clavier.
