I'm still looking for a lens for my M8, can you recommend me one, it has to be leica and wider than 35mm (still got the old summilux) nothing wider than 21mm. I use my M8 like a compact camera so it would be good if it was quite small.
Thanks Frase.

Any of the Elmarits 28?
My 28/2.8 Elmarit is not a small lens- the Canon 28/3.5 is certainly compact.

The latest Elmarit 28 is the only one I can think of given the constraints mentioned.

The 28 2.8 ASPH is Leica's smallest production lens. The other choice could be the 24 3.8 elmar. It is small too.

Ditto. The elmarit is good--and small.

I was thinking of going for the Leica Elmar 24mm f3.8 as I still have the 35mm 1.4 if I need a bit more speed or do I ditch the 35mm and go for a 28mm f2. Its a shame there is no framelines for a 21mm.

fraser: if you only have a 35, you want to ponder how you shoot--and, in regards to this, how close you want your lenses to be spread. personally, i wouldn't want my first two lenses to be a 28 and a 35. in fact, i think a 24 and a 35 would be too close--if i were to have just two lenses. folks "space" lenses differently, though ... for instance, i have an 18, 28, 50--and will soon add something 75-90-ish.

I would probably not use the 35mm any more as its really a 50mm on the M8 and I never really liked 50mm focal length. Maybe end up with just 24 or 28 and a 90. I do quite like the 24mm 3.8 but its quite a lot of money for a 3.8.

I've narrowed the search down to secondhand 28mm F2 Asph, new 28mm F2.8 Asph or new 24mm F3.8 Asph.
What do you think?

The 24 is a very good match for the M8
