I have misplaced the correct Zeiss lens hood for the Sonnar. Does anyone know which alternatuve lens hood would fit this lens? The camera is a 2/3 camera with square images. Would a 50mm lens cause vignetting on the 40mm lens?

1. Attach hood in question to camera.
2. Remove camera back and open shutter by setting to "B" and relesing with locking shutter release cable.
3. Point the camera at the sky or something else bright and look at the lens though the cornerss of the film gate.
4. Do you see the lens hood cutting into the aperture at f/16? at f/4? If you can't see the lens hood at the apertures you will be using the lens then it will not vignette.

I can do such a simple test.
Thanks.

Are there alternative lens hoods for 40mm lenses like the Sonnar?

If it's the Tenax II with the front lever wind, it's 35.5 mm -- I had one on my Tenax II, and actually got it from KEH for only about $5.00 (they obviously didn't know what they had).

If you can figure out what the Zeiss Ikon code number is, that would probably help you find it.

I just found this online -- don't know anything about them, but they do list a generic 35.5 hood:

I found at home a vented hood that fits very well as slip-on. next step is to see if there is vignetting or not.
