I purchased an adapter on ebay which was advertised as a Prominent Nokton 50/1.5 to Lecia M39 adapter. But when I got it I could see that it was not possible to mount a vintage Nokton lens. Then I want to hear if there is an expert here that could guess what the adapter is for?
Some image attached.
The inner diameter is about 51mm. It adapts to M39 so that information is correct.

The Prominent 100mm f4.5 Dynaron lens has such an external mount (I think one or two others had as well, including a 150mm lens and the 35mm lenses (there were 3? different 35mm's) also had such a mount. In fact I think the only ones with internal mount were the various 50mm's. That being the case this looks rather like it was made for certain Prominent lenses - just not the Nokton.

(I used to have one with 3 lenses but that was 20 years back so I am somewhat rusty on the topic's details)

I would suggest that the purchase is not a total loss - Prominent lenses are very good but tend to go relatively cheaply on eBay due to their oddities and the difficulties in using them. So it would not be out of the question to invest in one or two of these very nicely engineered lenses now that you have a means of using them (e.g. Prominent lens - Prominent to LTM adapter - LTM to mirrorless lens adapter)

Thank you very much!
It is an Alpa to M39 adapter. The ebay link did not work but I could seach google for Alpa lens adapter and found this one:
https://metabones.com/products/details/MB_ALPA-LM-BM2

Now.....I have no Alpa lenses.
Next is if they are good lenses and worth to try on a digital rangefinder. I need to read more about Alpa lenses......
I think I would be able to send the adapter back if I don't want it. I will think about that. But I will probably keep the adapter.

The Kern Switar 50mm f1.8 lens is not cheap to buy.

It better have some extra special bokeh mojo for that price , as I can buy a whole barrel full of swirly bokeh 58mm Helios 44-2 lenses for that price and have change left over for coffee and pecan pie at my local take-out.

The Alpa's Kern Macro Switar 50mm f/1.8 lens was reputed to be, in its day, one of the very finest 50mm lenses money could buy, and a major reason why the Alpa 9d and 10d were sooooo much more expensive than, say, a Leicaflex SL with Summilux-R 50mm f/1.4. 🙂

I remember going to the camera shop with my father when I was about 12, three years after I first was given a camera of my own to make photos with, and seeing the Leicaflex SL and the Alpa 10d on the shelf.

"Which one do you like most?" asked my father. The salesman grinned.

"I'll take the green one!" That was the 10d in Burgundy leatherette with a satin gold finish on the body.

The salesman laughed. "Sheesh, I can't even afford that for myself!" my father muttered. "I thought the Leicaflex SL too expensive... But I can buy that one.." The wolfish look on the salesman's face prompted ... "... maybe the next time I come in," by my father.

Salesman: "But the Alpa lenses are the best in the world! You'll love them!"

Father: "Yeah, I know. I have three of them on the Bolex H16Rex ..."

That's as close as I ever got to owning an Alpa 10d or that lovely 50mm lens.

Unless you got it cheap- best to return. The Alpa lenses are very expensive, as stated.

The Voigtlander Prominent external mount is very different. More like a brace for holding the lens still while the focus of the camera moved the optics of the lens. I don't know of anyone that has tried to make an adapter for external mount Prominent lenses.

The adapter was like $275 so I think I will return it.
If I could get a mint 50 1.9 Switar for like $500 I would consider it but prices seems a lot higher. As adapter is only for 50 1.8 and 50 1.9 the use is very limited.
I have not seen an adapter for the external mount Prominent lenses like the 35/3.5 lens. The Prominent 35/3.5 is a very nice lens so could be fun with an adapter. I was surprised how sharp my slides was using this lens on the Prominent. The Prominent adapters advertised for Nokton 50/1.5 should also work fine for Ultron 50/2 and Color-Skopar 50/3.5.
