Which lens on my FED or Zorki

Hi everyone,

finally I received my Fed2's. I bought them with an Industar 61 l/d and an Industar 26. I think both lenses don't fit estethicaly with the Fed's. Now I'm looking for a collapsable lens of which there are several (industar 22, fed, industar 50). Which one is the best, or should I better look for a Jupiter 8?

Pieter

That would depend if you want a lens that is of same epoc that your camara or one like jupiter 8 considered by many the best of FSU lenses.
You can take a look of some of them here:

Hope this helps,

Depends on which Induster 26 you have and which Fed-2 model you have. The I-26 was very common standard equipment on most of the Fed-2 models. If you want an authentic period collapsible lens, the Fed 50mm/3.5 was also used on the Fed-2.

My favorite collapsible lens is the Industar-50. However it is not the authentic lens for any Fed.

AFAIK, optically ther's no difference between the I-22 and I-50; try your I-61 L/D - a very good lens, if you like high contrast and apparent sharpness; or get a J-8 for smooooth bokeh and lower contrast; the I-26m is nothing special, though it would be the correct lens for a FED-2.

I liked using a Jupiter-8 on mine and a black one, oddly enough, doesn't look out of place

The collapsible I-50 is "allegedly" a little sharper than its I-22 counterpart. The lens that I think looks at home on either a FED or Zorki (or just about any other LTM camera) in the white (early) Jupiter 8.

The I-61 L/D is too contrasty for my taste but a lot of folks like them. Every once in awhile you see a Zorki 4 offered on Ebay with the I-61. That's just wrong! Keep FED lenses on FEDs, I say. If we let people get away with that the next thing we know dogs will be sleeping with cats! It's the end of the world, I say! :)

Pieter, I have a collapsible Fed 50mm 3.5 I do not use. I am willing to let you have for the cost of shipping. PM me if you want it.

PS I will be flying home to the UK tomorrow. I am in Lanzarote at the moment. So give me time to reply.

Make sure it is a later FED collaspible. The Pre War and I think some of the post war FED lenses were designed for a slightly different Lens to Film distance than later cameras

Thank you all guys, and especially Paul.. I bought 2 lenses on eBay just before you replied :( : a Fed 50/3,5 and a Jupiter 8. I hope they're in good condition! In about two weeks I'm sitting next to the postbox waiting........
Another question: what kind of lightmeter do you guys and girls use? Temporarely I'm using my Bessa-L, but for a lightmeter it's kind of big and heavy, actually it's meant for making pictures..........

I just converted an old Jupiter eight on my Kiev 2 to accept the Industar 61 L/D lens block. Another spare shell to take the Ind 26M. Both lenses have a slightly 'odd; look on my Kievs but I've extended my range of lenses. I love the Jupiter 8 and 3 but am always well satisfied with the performance of both these Industars. I use the fed 'Zarya' with the Ind 26M with excellent results. The Fed 2's are great with their standard lens; Industar 26M if the camera has flash sync and collapsing Ind 22 on those without sync. the Ind 22 is a Tessar clone. :)

Be aware that some of the collapsibles won't fit properly on some FED 2s. The infinity lock fouls against the body. Yes, I know some early FED 2s did come with a collapsible but the body had a deeper lens mount to allow it. Quite a few FSU models won't take a collapsible lens.

The collapsible I-10 made for FED-2 had a different locking tab. Instead of the usual spring loaded pin, the modified lock had become a clip. Nothing protrude at the back/mount side anymore so nothing catches.

I'm using the cheapest and smallest Seconic model, the Twinmate 208. It's perfect for RF use.

I use a Sverdlovsk 4 but I also have a couple of Weston Masters for second choice. The Sverdlovsk is pretty sensitive and has a narrow angle of view - not a true spot-meter but narrow nevertheless.

I stand corrected on that. Some FSUs do have a deeper lens-mount though and will take the likes of the I-22 and I-50, others won't. I thought that was the only difference, I didn't realise they modified the lock as well.

I'm a big fan of the J-8. Would like to try one of the collapsible lenses someday, although buying a camera with one on it already seems like the best value.

The Industar 50 is probably the best of them (although they're all pretty good). Usually to be found on a Zorki 5, which is actually one of the best FSUs IMHO (assuming bottom-loading doesn't worry you).

you need a proper ' Fed `collapsible which has a ' clip ' infinity lock , the I22 and I 50 does not fit properly .
I use one on my Leica M8 and it is outstanding .
