I've been searching this forum and can't see an answer.

Best as I can figure, Leica thread mount adapters are made to activate particular frame windows in use. If I want to use an LTM 90mm lens on an M camera, I need an adapter for '90mm' to activate the 90mm frame, yes?

So, for using Leica (or other) thread mount camera on a CL, how does this work? I keep seeing the following options- 28/90; 35/135; and 50/75. I'd prefer to not buy an adapter that pulls up the 90mm for a 35mm 50mm lens. Since the CL is a bit of an oddball with its 40mm frame, I'm not clear as to which adapter I should get.

So, for a 35mm or 50mm thread mount on a CL, what do I need in an LTM adapter?

Thanks.

For a 35 lens, use the 35/135 adapter. You will not have any 35 or 135 frame though, since the CL doesn't have them. Just the 40mm frame, which is always visible in the CL viewfinder.

For a 50 lens, use the 50/75 adapter. It will show the 40mm and 50mm frame in the viewfinder, but of course no 75 since the CL doesn't have a 75 frame.

I received my CL yesterday and have to say that it will take me some time to get used to the 40 & 50 frame at the same time. I might just shoot the 35mm lens on it and frame using the 40mm frame...

Yeah, Johan is right .. the CL doesn't see a difference between a 35mm or 50mm adapter.
Get a 35/135 adapter if your lens is 35 and a 50/75 when you are having a 50mm, so you don't run into problems if you get a M-Leica somewhen.

for the framing:
The 35 field of view lies roughly outside the 40mm frame - not enough to worry about it.
