I am looking for a wide angel lens (21-25) in ltm mount for my canon7. The choices, as I see it, are canon 25, VC25 and VC21. Did I miss any? Between these which one would you recommend. Thanks for your help.

I've read that the canon is not so hot as a performer, relative to its inflated collectors' price.

The CV 25 has better resolution, and particularly, edge to edge sharpness, than the Canon 25. The CV also exhibits less darkening in the corners when used at large aperture. The Canon was good for its time (mid-50s), but new optics are a lot better. On the other hand, the original Canon 25mm finder is a real jewel, almost as bright as the excellent modern CV finder.

I have the CV 21mm and love it to death. It's free of any visible distortion, pretty sharp and the handling is great: it's a tiny gem. The added bonus is the low price which usually already includes the viewfinder.

I count my CV 21mm LTM lens among the best money I've ever spent on camera gear. It's a stellar little lens, especially for the price. I also have the CV 25mm LTM lens, and it's really nice, too. I used to be a dedicated 24/25mm fan, when I shot more with SLR's- but for a single all-around super wide lens, I find I prefer the 21mm. The fact that it's RF coupled is nice; although it's not really necessary with lenses this wide, it is handy for close work. If I had to choose only one of these lenses, I'd stick with the 21.

you are right, even on a slr its very easy to focus by the lens barrel alone.

The Avenon/Bower/Kobalux wide-angle lenses are incompatible with the light baffles in the Canon 7.

The Canon 25/3.5 and 19/3.5 are too collector-priced to use.

Go CV. I'd say the 21mm, since it's RF-coupled.

21 has focus coupling and 25 does not. However, at this focal range, I assume you will use external view finder, and in such case, 25 has clicks on focusing ring at 1m, 1.5m, and 3m, which become handy when you are NOT using the RF patch to focus...

Both are optically very good and very small.
