I voted for the M3. Doesn't count for much as the only other M I have used is the M2. The clean frame lines of the M2 are to be preferred, specially as 35mm lines are included -- but I have noticed that the images in the R/F patch in the M3 are relatively unaffected by eye position.

It seems to me this kind of questions, spanning several brands (Leica, ZI, Voightlander) is best asked in a general forum, no ?

By putting this poll in the Leica M forum, you're "filtering" the respondents; how many Leica-users ever had a look at Voigtlander, and know e.g. that the R3A and R3M have 1:1 viewfinder, and not .91 like the M3 (present company (that's all of you) excepted, of course :p) ?

OTOH, how many Voigtlander or ZI users read the Leica M forum (present company (that's me)... etc :D) ?

Before somebody takes a large stick: I just bought a M6 TTL and waiting for it now .... :)

BTW, I voted for the R4A: no other VF can beat it when you like ultra-wide. I do like the R3A and the Hexar RF very much though.

Stefan.

between all the Ms if there would be only one it is the M4 finder which is the best. Then comes M3 then M2 and then MP, M6, M7...

Hands down winner for best VF: the Zeiss ZM. The rest (Leica Ms) are just "also ran"s.

If you are interested or need a good viewfinder.

I personally use a .85x MP finder in my M7. It's served me well. I think .72x is all right. Haven't tried .58x.

To me, the Epson R-D1 1:1 viewfinder provides the best experience, especially to shoot with both eyes open.
I wish it had a bigger focusing patch and allow a bit wider focals.
