That chrome M4 is a real beauty... I would love a beater specimen for daily use. Saw one last year that went for just 1000 euros... That buyer should consider himself blessed! For me the ultimate M body is the M4 just because of the lack of electronic that makes it a timeless picture taking machine... Servicable in a hundred years to come! Watch out lil'grand kids us this piece of art to take photos (if film still exist somewhere by this time)

Like most everyone, I want an MP. Voted for the M6, though.

I just bought a Hexar RF. Already own a Hexar AF, Bessa R4M, Canon XTI, Olympus XA, a Yashica T4, Pentax K1000, and last year's Samsung teeny-weeny digital P&S. All but the Hexars will be up for sale as soon as I can get around to it. Then, I'll sell the Hexars and buy that MP.🙂

I've ogled all the Leica Ms.

The Leica M4 really strikes me as a superb camera and one day I'll aquire one.

The M4-P I have and it's really useful.

I think the M6s and M7s are quite nice, and all, but I don't need the electronics.

The MP is nicely retro, but the price (!) and the electronics don't enthuse me (but what a lovely thing!). This would be my second choice.

The M8 is a little silly, with the right tools my toaster could be a digital camera, do you know what I mean?

My vote was for a M2, which I own, but I want another. Lasting simplicity, reliability, no electronics.

I've recently had just the IIIf. It was a bit of a jewel, but too squinty for me.
Twenty years ago I had an M3 but can't remember much about it (wish I did) as I didn't have it all that long.

If I had my druthers, it would need to be black, so that sort of rules out the M2-M3 cameras (I think).

So then, M4, M4-P, M6. I don't really need an in-camera meter anyway, as I carry an old Gossen Sixtomat in a pocket if I need it.

If it comes to meters, quite frankly I prefer the meter in my Bessa R to that of my friend's M6. But if he gave it to me I believe I could make the adjustment.

Good news is that, with my new part-time job I will soon have the bucks for one of the three M's I've settled on.

Ok, I thought about it a bit more, and the best complement to my M4 would be an M7.

There is actually something to be said for an auto exposure point and shoot camera.. just kidding of course. The aperture priority feature would come in handy indoors in artificial lighting..

I would like an MP but I really don't see the value in it above my M6's. If I where to go for one it would have to be black paint and have no top plate markings ie completely plain and have the old vulcanite type covering. IMHO all the M's are great cameras but and i'm speaking for myself here, if it's pristine I wouldn't use it as intended. My M6 classic is near mint and I don't want to be the first to scratch it up! My R's are the same and just sit gathering dust. The only one I use all the time is my well worn, on the outside! M6ttl, which goes in my bag, no case, everywhere. I do think it's a shame that because of how much it costs, a fair percentage of Leica gear never actually gets much use!
Anyone want to swap a plain user MP for a nice R kit, 2 bodies and 2 lenses?!!!
Does anybody else feel same? rgds j

Where's the M1?

I'm happy with what I've got and with what's on the way 😉

Pristine is all well and good if you're going to sell one, but use 'em I say. We'll never use 'em up anyhow.

Call me a low-brow or worse. I was tickled pink when Leica finally managed to get 1960s technology into the M6 in the mid-80s and still think the M6 is about as good as an M gets. I'm happy with the current herd: M3, M4, M6/.72x, M6/.85x.

Well, an M2-R would be fun... 😉
