Which mirrorless system for native lenses?

Which mirrorless system for native lenses?

My original poll got deleted, so here it goes again. I am not including Leica M because I don't feel it fits here.

So, based on native lenses, which system would you buy into?

100% fuji. The m4/3 lenses are the only competition and they are neither as well made or optically as good.

EDIT: I just realized this was legacy lenses. My bad folks.

Amusing that the Sony full frame is leading the poll but they are not even available yet so no one has actually tried it!

because legacy lenses were all made for the 35mm format and if you put them on aps-c you are losing half of the area of the lens' circle of coverage. you are losing all of the design choices made by the manufacturer as you cut out the glass that isn't in the very center.

so after losing much of the character of the lens, you are left with something that has lower contrast than cheap, autofocus lenses designed for such a smaller image circle. again, without much of the character of the lens.

a very, very expensive legacy 35mm lens on aps-c can easily lose to a 200 dollar prime. yet put it on a full frame of the same pixel density and print to equal sizes, well it's obvious which one is going to perform better.

I realize performance isn't everything, but if you combine that with losing the parts of the circle that aren't close to perfect, adapting legacy lenses to smaller than full frame cameras is ultimately an exercise in patience. until you can get a full frame camera.

A considered post, but it seems the "kept part" of the circle by the current 800 pound gorilla is also the worst part...

Well, I think the Leica is chosen based on totally different factors then say a Pentax Q or a Sony NEX system.

That may be. It is certainly debatable.
Perhaps you mean mirrorless system with AF?
Otherwise, in terms of the poll, Leica's exclusion sounds totally arbitrary.
Look, I have no interest in defending the Leica M and no plans to buy one. But it fits the criteria of the poll. It is a mirrorless system that has native lenses and allows all kind of adapted ones, too.
So the poll is really 'Which mirrorless system excluding Leica for native lenses?'.
Or maybe it is a price-point issue?
Long live arbitrary polls!

I have tried 2 different systems with Leica glass. Imo neither of the systems in the poll are optimal for M lenses (perhaps except GRX?), in particular for 35mm and shorter. And one need in fact hands-on experience for each lens / sensor combination. The glass in front of sensor and micro-lenses used together with lens determines the IQ.

So, still not any free lunch.

I've been following this thread since it started and I am so glad the OP posted this.
I've been also thinking of a smaller camera like the Nex to use my Nikon, Alpa, Canon,
and LTM lenses and I've received invaluable info here .Thanks to all. Haven't been able to make a final choice yet.
