Not wanting to throw a spanner into the discussion, but I have to say that the Summicron C 40mm is a fabulous, small and inexpensive lens that belongs in this group too.
Blind test it with version 1, 2 and 3 - and you will be hard pressed to tell which is which.

i've really been enjoying my V2. i didn't think i'd get along with the aperture tab, but now it feels totally natural and i prefer it to the usual ring. it's incredibly compact, i think it's the smallest summicron ever made (which is pretty cool).

This old thread brings back memories of having two 35mm Summicron lenses at one time. I now have only the goggled version 1 which I may not sell ever. I now also have a Biogon 35/2 and Canon 35/2 (again). It is a good trio for me. Leica-Zeiss-Canon.

I am just now enjoying my first 3.5cm, the Canon f2. With a Nikkor 2.5 waiting in the wings.
I doubt I will ever own a Summicron, but I fear even saying that, because I am a very, very weak person.
