Hi,

I am looking for a finder with a set of two framelines that will cover a 15 and a 21mm lens on the R-D1, is the GV-1 finder for the Ricoh GRD suitable for that? Or do you have any other recommendations?

Thanks
Max

I'm pretty sure that the finder that comes with the CV21 would work. I remember hearing that if you just use the whole finder it covers 15mm, and then the framelines do 21.

edit: Oops...just saw that this was in the Epson forum. Sorry, didn't count for crop...

Hmmmm.. I may be wrong but I don't think there is a combined 21mm and 28mm/35mm finder (which is what you need for 15mm and 21mm lenses).

I use a CV 21mm finder for my CV 15mm lense and I have just purchased a fantastic CV 28/35 mini finder for use with my Elmarit 21mm. The latter finder is a fantastic piece of work, very small and yet easy to see through and very clear. It sits very well atop the R-D1 and I can leave it on pretty much permanently even in my photo bag.

15mm and 21mm on the RD-1 give roughly the same field of view as 23mm and 32mm on 35mm format. I'm sure there isn't a combined 23/32mm finder available, but the Ricoh GV-1 finder for 21/28mm is probably the closest you'll get in one finder.

Since posting my reply above, I've thought of a couple of other finders that also approximate a 23/32mm field of view. There's the Leica 21/24/28mm three-in-one finder; and the Konica 21/35mm finder (but that only came with the somewhat rare 21/35mm dual lens).

I use the 15D for the 15mm and the 28/35 minifinder for the 21mm. For the 15mm lens the 21mm finder would also work well.

Which frame lines are you using on your new CV 28/35 mini finder for the 21 mm?

Basically, I use the space in between the 28 and 35 frame lines. On an R-D1 a 21mm is approximately 32mm so the 28 is too wide and the 35 too small :) I think of it as a compromise viewfinder. Seems to work though and it is a beautifully made item.

Thanks for your replys. It all comes down to compromises, Since the D finders are discontiuned and the 21's are sold out at some of our favorite vendors.
