hi all, seeing as many of us here share an interest in things mechanical (apart from cameras) such as pens and watches, i thought i'd ask for your opinions.

what do you think of Oris watches?

I saw the Oris Complication and it looks really classic and it seems to be priced much lower than an equivalent tag.

For the price of a quartz tag, one could purchase an automatic date/moonphase oris!

of course, price isnt everything.

Like to hear your opnions and vote on oris versus tag? or other alternatives...

I think if you like Leica, you'll also like Nomos watches, which are very Bauhaus in design.

I've got two.

Cheers,
Alex

I prefer the 40s to 70s manual chronometers/ divers myself. I especially like the old Zodiacs and Omegas. The former are much cheaper (in price) than the latter. IMHO most all the new stuff is very poorly made compared to the older.

I prefer zenith pure mechanical watch (normal business equipment), but also own a Bell&Ross Chrono for leisure (powered by Sinn based on a valjoux movement). the latter is a tehcnical one, very efficient & useful (chrono mostly for cooking ;->), but when it comes to mechanics.... I'm for zenith or even LIP.

TAG & Rolex are wayyyy show off articles (at least for me even if it is still good watches).

For me Oris is more or less like Bell & Ross, but the latter has a more technical backround (used by miltary personnel or firemen) like panerai (but not on the same league...)

and if you want some fun built like tanks, go to FSU (Poljot (same Valjoux movement...) or even Vostok or Raketa)

With a Leica, only a German watch, like this e-bay item:

I am Breitling wearer myself. I have the Emergency Professional for work and general goofing around, when feeling a little uppity the Cosmonaut. I had Rolex Sea Dweller but was not impressed and got rid of it. I like Breitling more but I am influenced by my aviation background.

Check out Sinn also for excellent quality German "tool" watches.

I second the vote for Sinn. I have owned my Sinn Flieger 356 for over 5 years. I recently just purchased the bracelet for it. Love leather bands, but they never last more than a year. I wear my Flieger everyday.

hi,

both are nice.
I have a Sinn 440 as my everyday watch and it is outsatnding.
Myoris complication is relaly nice but more like a dress watch.

Ciao

I've had my eye on a classic Cartier Tank - but it's a bit out of reach at the moment.

In the meantime, I've got a few oddball japanese "interesting" watches, and a Duluth trading $100 automatic to keep me on time.

I wear a Seiko "Black Monster" divers watch. It's a bunch of watch for the money. The movement is proven, the case is durable, and the bracelet is top-notch. It's mechanical, automatic, 21 jewels, with day and date. It doesn't have the cachet of a Patek Phillipe, but it wears well.
