Which watch?

My dream watch has been an Omega Speedmaster Professional Moon watch.
Bingo. Had one years ago. Lost it (literally...don't know whether it was pilfered or not). My all-time favorite, no-BS quality watch with a serious pedigree (moreso, IMO, than a Rolex Sub, also a serious watch whose brand name gets in the way too often, along with a certain mythical secret agent). Right now I have a quartet of semi-vintage Hamiltons awaiting restoration, including a two-register chrono from the early 70s (about as close as I'm coming to a Bell & Ross). And all my watches are manual-wind, sans day/date functions. In an age where the average metropolitan citizen carries at least two devices in her/his person that offers up, among a dozen other things, the day, date, and time with fraction-of-a-second accuracy and is not worn on the wrist, the wristwatch, oddly enough, is once again allowed to be just a watch, still vital and functional (and as elegant as one chooses), still available with the proverbial flick of the wrist, but no longer having the need to be 22 different things to its one wearer.

Free spirit here, I don't wear a watch.
A true free spirit wears a nice watch, and loves the watch s/he wears, but nevertheless is frequently late. (Ask me how I know this.)

P.S. Recommendations for those with a taste for mechanical watches, but not for their usual perceived cost: Hamilton Khaki Field Mechanical; Seiko 5/5 Superior series; Invicta; Swatch Irony Body & Soul (as someone in this thread already has); Mido. And a few others. You're already throwing enough money at cameras and stuff if you're here. 😉

Check out Sinn also for excellent quality German "tool" watches.

Agreed. I have a Sinn 256, a great watch. The only problem is that since I've started carrying a cell phone with me everywhere I don't bother wearing a watch anymore. I probably should swap the Sinn for some Leica gear.

Just like James Bond! nice

Actually Bond's watch for the last 5 films has been the Omega Seamaster. Like mine!

Great for scubadiving, but better for martini's 😎

in the books; i've not seen the films, i bought the watch ignorant of it,s providence🙁
Best way to buy, IMO.

I see you like to take your Fleming neat; can't exactly blame you. (But I'm going to see the "proper" Casino Royale nevertheless.)

Go for something like this wonderful mechanical watch if you want it to fit the classic cameras without electronics. It is a Valjoux built in a Maurice Lacroix. Although I don´t like the gold I love the mechanical part of it.

wow, 5 pages of comments so far... looks like we like our watches almost as much as our cameras. thanks for all your suggestions.

My deam watch is probably the omega- just think "bond, james bond". And i had a seiko 5, it's great value but mine broke down recently.

anyhow, my lovely wife bought me a quartz tag aquaracer (the updated 2000 series look, not the submariner lookalike)

the scary thing was the watch in the showcase was already not working! they've ordered a new one for me.... hopefully this will last a long time.

but i also bought a vostok amphibia '007' ! 😛
can't avoid fsu gas! shhhh! don't say a word to her!

just to keep this thread going, what do you think is the most "Leica like" watch? or which watches are most like which cameras?

Since I was 13 y.o. I used a wristwatch as if it was a part of myself, it is I can´t live without it.
I´m using currently a Baume & Mercier submariner from the ´60s, but this is quite expensive (sentimental value) to become a gift for someone else, so my daily watch may be a Vostok Komandirskiye, a Seiko 5, an automatic Orient, or even a Casio quartz chrono.

I got to admit that I dislike electronic quartz watches. There is no finesse inside them.
