The IIIc (and iiib) moved the diopter adjust to around the rewind knob. The base of the lens looks big; but until I put the Summitar and Nikkor next to each other, hard to tell. The Nikkor is a "biggest collapsed lens" that I've seen! I wonder if the clip is a commercial is for a Sears Tower Type 3.
At first glance it looked to me like a III or IIIa with a Summar.....but after examining the base of the lens, it is more square rather than rounded {Summar} in the shoulder. Possibly not a Summitar since this was introduced with the IIIb. So it's more likely a Tower/Nicca clone with an early Nikkor as Brian pointed out.
All I know is that his picture was horribly out of focus. He jerked the camera about 3 inches when he pushed the shutter. He needs to take that gum out of his mouth and use a mini-soft release 🙂
