Who else here uses Facebook, Instagram or other such general-purpose social media for their "slice of life" photography?

I was posting some stuff to Instagram today and recalled that I have explicitly used this site as a place where I can really just post images that represent a slice of my life". In fact I have headed it "A life in pictures". Stuff I have done, people I have known, places I have been, hobbies - other than photography - that I practice, personal experiences I have had. And so forth. I try to keep the image quality high but I feel less constrained than I may be here are RFF, because I don't really feel the need to excel on these other sites as they are really explicitly about documenting my life more than trying to produce "art" or respond to a theme that someone has chosen for me.

As a result, there is a mixture of stuff - of course some of it appears here on RFF in some form or other. Other stuff possibly (probably) never will. While some of it is about family stuff, (as most people do) mine is broader than this and is almost like me uploading my memories and experiences (and thoughts sometimes) to the web, recognizing that one day (not anytime soon I hope) I inevitably will not be here so it may be useful for friends to remember me by. ( I am hale and hearty and have no immeidate plans to drop off the twig. But after all, I am of a "certain age" so there is a certain inevitability about it all in the long run.)

I wonder if anyone else does anything of the same sort. It would be good to share this stuff and might be a way to get an interesting insight into other people on RFF.

My Facebook serves a similar purpose but there is not a one to one correlation between them as some images make it to one site but not the other - this is pretty much arbitrary though.

OK, I am on FB but to me it is a visit to the ward in One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest. It is really scary when I a not the only crazy in the room. I use it to follow user groups of cameras and rant over politics. The visual journey is the JPG's stored out on Flickr. It's pretty dull but so is my life, now that I am out of the joint. LMAO

OK, in reality my life has been wonderful and interesting, so far. All that is on Flickr is the digital record. Images, no dialog.

I don't, my FB page is completely private and only has people on it I know personally, I don't feel the need or desire to share my life with most, I do have a Flickr page which has a few test pics with old lenses and digital cameras but I'm in the process of moving all that to self hosting so I have more control, I of course post pictures here but mostly test pics or snapshots or experiments or just messing about because I enjoy the company here, like minded creatives who understand photography more than the general public, most pics I do post on FB just go over peoples heads unless it contains a cat!

I shut down my Facebook and Instagram accounts years ago. I have a Flickr account but have not posted any photos there in a long time. I am about to shut that account down as well. I had my own personal website for over 15 years, but I closed that early last year. However, I am seriously thinking about starting another personal website.

I have FB, IG, and other social media accounts. I have them simply because there are groups of friends I'd like to stay in touch with who seem to have forgotten how to write a letter, an email, or make a phone call. I only rarely post anything as, by and large, their Terms of Service basically say that you agree to "anything posted there belongs to them, not you." I only occasionally post a note on any of them, and even more rarely post a photo (that I deem to have no actual value to me).

I have and use a Flickr.com account, owned by Amazon, as an image server. Their Terms of Service are at least respectful of ownership rights for the creators of the photos posted. I occasionally read one of the groups on Flickr and respond, but very rarely.

I used to have my own domain and photography website but closed that down when I retired, a decade ago. It was most useful when I was actively seeking exhibition opportunities and paying photo jobs.

Most of my "socials" interaction nowadays come from discussions here, on the Leica Users Forum, and on GetDPI, along with a couple of other specific photographic discussion venues.
