who is done? and how do you know?

I think I'm more or less done with my Leica stuff. Maybe another 50mm lens and that's it. I have a digi P&S and no interest in a dSLR or M8. When I'm finished with a particular project I think I may sell some of my more modern lenses, I like the older ones better. Modern bodies and older lenses and I have most of that.

Done for now

Done for now

Until my cash flow improves I'm done! HOWEVER...when it DOES improve I'm going on a GAS bender (Both film AND digital!) that every alcoholic in the world will envy! ;o) Have to replace equipment I had to sell earlier this year and get some more!
BTW, I'm working on a full hands on user review of the Bessa R3M I got from Cameraquest. Look for it as soon as I get the rolls of film back and scanned!

Peter,

THAT is discipline ! 🙂
Nah, I've just got absolutely no interest in digital at all Tom. I don't like the prints in comparison to film and I spend 12+ hours a day in front of a computer as it is... I have a scanner, that's enough digital for me. 🙂

Done? No, but not much going to happen till the new job starts brining in $$$. Then I'll be setting aside $50 per paycheck till I have enough for the ZM 50/1.5 & a CLA on the CL. Then I may well be done but I doubt it 🙂

New Style: Mechanical Digital

New Style: Mechanical Digital

I realized I enjoy the feelings I get when I use manual focus and setting f stop.
So now I just ordered a new Pentax K100. I only have manual focus K mount lenses.
So now I am looking foward to having feelings when I work with manual focus and setting f stop and at the same time: Digital instant gradification.

Just to let you all know, I really wanted the new Leica M8. That's what kind of gave me the idea that I'm talking about here.
The Digital SLR Pentax K100 with manual K mount lenes will have to hold me over until I can afford the M8 Rangefinder. Still I am smiling with this money saving idea.

So I'm not done and this is how I know!

I'm done. Maybe a lens or two somewhere down the road, but camera-wise... I'm pleased with my little herd of screw-mounts (and assorted others). I've taken some time off from even shooting this month, but plan on spending quite some time exploring/creating different ways to enjoy my Barnacks & Barnack-types.

Film-wise, I'm good. Really. I'll be getting my IIa Contaxes back from Henry Scherer in a month or 2. Got Leica M's and screwmounts, Rolleiflex, Hasselblad, and 4x5 Speed Graphic. Nikon SLR's sitting on a shelf. No interest in a dSLR, but will get something like the Leica M8 someday years from now.

I need to direct any disposable income to fixing up my motorcycles. The BMW R90/6 needs a transmission reshimming and new seals in the drivetrain, and the R100/7 needs new valve seats.

"Now get this, honkie -- you go tell Raphael that I ain't takin' no jive
from no Western Union messenger! You tell that a$$hole, if he got somethin'
to tell me to get his ass down here himself!"

more german toys...

i just sold my old nikon slr outfit to offset the cost of my other toy. another german engineered dot. my bmw r65..

but that heliar keeps distracting me...

I'm done with my film gear (I think). I wouldn't mind slapping my 35 Summicron on a digital rangefinder to go with my 50 lux on the M2. That would be sweet.

Nope, not done. Then again, I'm younger than a lot of people here.

I'm pretty happy with the gear I have and FrankS (whom I shall call "Big Daddy Frank" sometimes from here on out just to be silly) has opened my eyes on a few things. I'm going to concentrate on amassing darkroom and printing gear instead of cameras for a while. I found an enlarger in Iowa for $100 that's pretty much brand new...I just have to go get it. I'm going to get what other things I CAN get in Iowa City while I'm there, then I plan to mail order the rest. I'm going to print happily for 6 or 8 months. Then I'm going to get my Holy Grail: the M2. I'm saving now, even (my friends aren't letting me buy anything), and I'm looking for a better job than the one I have. There may even be the possibility of me working in a restaurant where I'll have a bit of creative control where the menus are concerned...and that would be really nice. But my photographic journey is really just starting and I can't really say that I'm done with my equipment buying, but my plans for at least the next two years are set:

Leica M2
35mm Lens
50mm Lens
90mm Lens
Digital light meter.

I think it's time. I want the M2 + a 50mm lens before I go off to college and I can't afford squat...it'll be a good investment in my future photographic pursuits, whatever those end up being. I don't want to do it professionally, but at the same time I feel a certain pull towards something more than amateur shooting. I'll be on the lookout for a better light meter in the next month or so before I go to Colorado and I'm wanting to shoot chromes. I'm not sure the Sekonic I got from a really nice person here is up to that task and I wouldn't want to leave my last few rolls of Velvia 50 to chance. I'm giving up on the Argus C3, selling the Canonet 28, and giving the Meopta Flexaret to someone with the time and knowhow to fix it.

I'm going to spend my time shooting. Frank made his point. 🙂

I only started "getting into" photography about a year ago. I think the initial stages are the worse for GAS (for me anyway) as I am finding out what type of camera and which focal lengths suit me the best.

But. Now I feel I'm done. About a month ago I looked at two rolls of "test film" and felt sick - if I ever have to shoot another "test film" I'll vomit.

So my R2a with 40/1.4 and OM10 with 50/1.8 and 24/2 will actually see some meaninful use and the money that I was saving for a M2 has yesterday been spent on a year long photography course.

But as Stephanie, I think I'll be getting an M2 at some point 😛

PS I still have film and developer GAS - but that's cheaper.

I'm still deciding between lenses, though. Budget-wise, 35/50 'crons and a 90mm Elmarit-M would be the best thing, but I keep looking at that 90 'cron and thinking how much use I'd get out of it for low-light portraiture...

But yeah.

You not happy with the J-9? Just curious.
