Nope, not done. Then again, I'm younger than a lot of people here.
I'm pretty happy with the gear I have and FrankS (whom I shall call "Big Daddy Frank" sometimes from here on out just to be silly) has opened my eyes on a few things. I'm going to concentrate on amassing darkroom and printing gear instead of cameras for a while. I found an enlarger in Iowa for $100 that's pretty much brand new...I just have to go get it. I'm going to get what other things I CAN get in Iowa City while I'm there, then I plan to mail order the rest. I'm going to print happily for 6 or 8 months. Then I'm going to get my Holy Grail: the M2. I'm saving now, even (my friends aren't letting me buy anything), and I'm looking for a better job than the one I have. There may even be the possibility of me working in a restaurant where I'll have a bit of creative control where the menus are concerned...and that would be really nice. But my photographic journey is really just starting and I can't really say that I'm done with my equipment buying, but my plans for at least the next two years are set:
Leica M2
35mm Lens
50mm Lens
90mm Lens
Digital light meter.
I think it's time. I want the M2 + a 50mm lens before I go off to college and I can't afford squat...it'll be a good investment in my future photographic pursuits, whatever those end up being. I don't want to do it professionally, but at the same time I feel a certain pull towards something more than amateur shooting. I'll be on the lookout for a better light meter in the next month or so before I go to Colorado and I'm wanting to shoot chromes. I'm not sure the Sekonic I got from a really nice person here is up to that task and I wouldn't want to leave my last few rolls of Velvia 50 to chance. I'm giving up on the Argus C3, selling the Canonet 28, and giving the Meopta Flexaret to someone with the time and knowhow to fix it.
I'm going to spend my time shooting. Frank made his point. 🙂
