ok, both frank s and i have publicly declared that we were done.
someone posted recently and said i lasted 3 days before bought/sold/traded something.
frank was just delusional from the beginning 😉.

i fear i will never really be done because i have discovered i like playing with all the toys.

please keep in mind that i actually use the gear/take pics too!!!!

so, who here is done, really done? and how do you know that?

replies from frank s will automatically self destruct or be deleted...😉

done buying things?!?!? Why on God's green earth would someone stop buying things for their beloved rangefinders??? As my cousins three year old would say, "You are just talking stinky!"

I may have what I want when it comes to film bodies by now.
(Hard not to with a Leica M3, Leica III(F), Contax IIIa, Hasselblad 500C/M, etc).

When it comes to digital I know I am not done.
I'd love a Leica M8 (approx 5K) and a digital back for my Hasselblad (approx 10K) and at one point I know I will get a dSLR.

Note: accessories such as filters, viewfinders, straps, hoods, etc are things I know I will always buy occasionally for any body I use.

I'm pretty sure I'm done: 3 Rolleiflexes, 2 Leicas, 1 Canon, 2 Nikons, lenses from 28 to 135, boxes of filters and hoods, too many folders from 6X4.5 to 6X9. Four years ago I sold 4X5, 8X10 and studio lighting. Don't miss that stuff. Sometimes I miss my M2, but the M4-2 is a good replacement. How do I know I'm done? Stuff I own has more to do with what pictures I want than just trying stuff. But then I've owned a lot of different cameras over the past 40 years. And of course there's an Olympus Pen S 3.5.

I'm pretty much content with what I have. I'd like a few other lenses, but I doubt if I'll see another recurrence of major GAS for film cameras. I mean I need cases and filters and straps, but I think you're referring to the hardware. Like Rich, on the film side, I'm pretty much content, and on the digital side I'm not. I'd like to get the M8, or at the very least a RD-1. I was perusing a camera store in the city looking at dSLR's , just yesterday, and I was on B&H looking at all kind of digital cameras.

I am definitely not done. Even though I have what I thought I wanted, I am still itching to try other stuff. As budget is (sadly) at some point limited, I do have to sell in order to buy. Buying and selling camera equipment does not cost much if you know where/when to shop and you take good care of the cameras/lenses. The auction site and the classifieds here have given us an unprecedented opportunity to try out all possible outfits. I doubt this would have been possible before the advent of digital (that turned yesterday's professional film cameras into today's throw aways - Here's hoping that someone will throw an M6 my way 😀 ). So, why be done? There's always something you haven't tried, always something you must try.

Hm. I feel as if I 've just written a gearhead manifesto 😱

I am on not done but on hiatus due to employment concerns. Once the cashflow issue is dealt with, I will be on the hunt for a modern M mount 50 prime lens for my Leica kit.
Same here. Trying to sell what I can to finish paying what I started. I hope it doesn't have to come to having to do it to buy some Ramen! 🙁

ya he was asking me about Star Wars, but his parents won't let him see the movies so all he knows is the toys and little cartoons and such... So when he asked who my favorite was I said Darth Vader.. He of course said BUT HE IS BAAAADD!!!!! And I said well yea but he starts off good and becomes good again.. Which is when the stinky comment came in! 😛

I must have laughed for 5 minutes straight!

Leica-wise, I'm done! 🙂

Wait... I do lust for a Summilux 35. I wish I could buy one, but I don't see myself doing it within the next 2 years, so... can I say I'm done? With three bodies, two meters and six lenses I better be.

Now, I'm not done with Nikon stuff, though: all I need are accessories, and after the battery pack I bagged yesterday for my F100, I'm in the hunt for a remote release cable.

There you go! 🙂

After I get an M3 and 50 Summicron to go with it then I will be done. I thought about taking the money I saved for the M8 and getting a full MP3 kit but maybe I'll take that cash and get some serious GAS counseling.

I thought I was after I paid $800US for a bugeyed 35mm 'cron for the M3....but I still find myself checking out the variety of 28mm M lenses....still thinking I should try out a cheapie before spending big bucks.
Lost a fleecebay auction tonight (probably to one of you guys) for a UV filter for my Summarit, $28.55US....have a skylight for it already, so no big deal, but still indicates GAS is not totally quiet yet....

I'm sure most of us won't be truly done until we're taking a dirt nap ... and even then I'm sure a few will leave purchase orders in their wills.

Peter
