Who is using Minolta Rokkor SLR lenses?

Peter,
Do you by any chance know bout the price range for these lenses?

Thanks either way.

My only Rokkor is the old 35mm 2.8.

I have the 28mm 2.5. A good lens. As far as I know, its essentially valueless. Should be easy to pick up something similar for cheap.

B&H currently has an MC 28mm f2.5 in 8+ condition for $49.00. I just acquired one from another source and I like it. Reasonably sharp. Mine has the yellow brown tint in one element, but doesn't seem to affect color balance badly. It seems just right with an 82A filter, and maybe just a bit "warm" without. You might want to read up on "radioactive" lenses though. But imho all this really does is make an otherwise nice lens less expensive. Mine's not for sale if that's any indication...

Raid -- I've got Minolta Rokkor SLR lenses, although I don't have the one that consistently gets rave reviews: the 24/2.8. I've seen it go for around $300 +, but that was not recently. My sense is that, like the Rokkor 85mm lenses, sells for a substantial premium over the rest of the Rokkor line, good as those lenses are.

I like the little 28/2.8, which is dirt cheap. I also like the 35/2.8. I've got the 35/1.8 but have not used it much to form an opinion.

JFH; Thanks for the tip.I will check it out.
Does anyone have experience with the 20mm and the 21mm Rokkor lenses?

I have the 28/2.8 and the 50/2, both MD versions, for no other reason than that they were dirt and dirt cheap when I got them.. and they're not bad at all.

I have the MD 24 2.8 too, it's a great lens (it's the one made when Minolta was collaborating with Leica). The 20 and 21 are pricey, but (I've heard) not so great.

the 21mm Rokkor lenses?

Raid,
I have the 21mm F2.8 MC W Rokkor NL (with original hood), and it is an oustanding optical design. Has a floating element inside, which adds clarity in close-up shooting. An absolutely excellent, dare I say, LEGENDARY 21mm SLR lens. $350-$400 price range, usually.

Raid,

I wonder if your existing 35/2.8 is the MC, HG version with bright aperture ring. The 28/3.5 of the same perioud would be a good match.

You can say I am a bit too fastidious: I prefer to use lenses from the same period for each assignment to ensure the consistancy of the "look" of the pictures, especially when I am shooting colour reversal materials for publishing. The first-release MC Rokkors are not as costly as the later ones but performance is fully satisfactory, and consistancy iin imaging characteristic most reassuring too. I only have a few first-release MC Rokkors, some pre-MC specimen and a fair collection of the last release "plain MD" and I never mix and match, just in case.

You have the more "modern" retrofocus lens. I have no doubt at all that your lens willl be a better lens than the old style 21mm 4.5. I am more intrigued by the older style lens since it would make a cool looking RF lens for me.

Seele,
Yes, I have the HG version with the chrome ring. It looks really cool with the Beautiful Minolta lens hood that came with the lens. I spent the $30 on the lens because of the leather case, the lens hood, and the good reviews of this lens. The lens hood alone is worth $20. I have the hard to find Minolta-LTM adapter. No clue how it ended up in one of my many camera items bags, but i have the adapter. It allows me to make use of Minolta mnaual SLR lenses on LTM cameras.

35 2,8 is 50 € so far my best lens after the 35 CV color skopar

50 f2 is 10 euros, an excellent lens, I use both for street photo 🙂

a bigger aperture can be a drawback as it will need more time for focus

My only Rokkor is the old 35mm 2.8.

I still have one of those. It started my love affair with the 35mm focal length 🙂

I graduated via a 35/3.5 Tessar to a 35/2 Planar, which is presently my most used 35mm lens.

24mm 2.8 and 35mm 1.8 are great lenses.

I have to concur, I have both MD W Rokkors mentioned by Peter and they are top notch. I do like my CV 35 Ultron better than the Rokkor comparing the two, but the Rokkor is very good. I think I bought the 35 for @$125 and the 24 for less than $200.

So that adapter maintains infinity focus with MC Rokkor lenses on LTM bodies? Quite interesting, so I could put my 21mm f2.8 MC on my Leica M's. Hmmmmm Are there any markings on the adapter?
I think I want one.

I have not yet taken a single roll of film with the adapter, but I expect it to maintain infinity focus.

It says on the back of the adapter:
JAPAN MIN-LE

If I had good Rokkor wide angle lenses, I would benefit more from this adapter. Still, all I need is one first class [very] wide angle Rokkor lens to make use of the adapter.
