I had always thought it was a Zeiss. Now I am hearing it's Fuji. How does this compare to the offering by Zeiss that other Hasselblad cameras use?

All Xpan lenses are made by Fuji! It is a known fact and never hidden. Fuji lenses are one of the best. The H1 lenses are also made by Fuji.

A discussion of Fuji vs Zeiss on photo.net:

The lenses are manufactured by Fuji, but Zeiss designed.

Keith, do you have a source for this? I never came across this when I was researching the Xpan before buying. In fact, Michael Reichmann of Luminous Landscape suggests that the Xpan was a Fuji project offered to Hasselblad as a rebranded product.

And this source suggests Contax manufactured the Xpan lenses for Fuji!

The 45 is plenty sharp and contrasty. Don't worry if you were about quality- this is a better lens than the Fuji 645 cameras I've had. Camera is Fuji made also, finish is different on the TX than the XPAN, but the wood grip for the TX fits the XPAN like it was made for it, which it was.

Having owned a xpan 45mm and 90mm, all I can say is great camera and super sharp lenses. The black finish on the xpan comes off relatively easily. besides that I would love to own one again

i doubt @ ll that the 45mm Fuji lens has it's foundation in Oberkochen - why should it be like that? Do u think Zeiss or Leica are magicians & the only soure of superbe optics ?

or the mediumformat lenses?
Has there ever been a tiny lens from ZEISS ? Compare imagecircle & lens size (there is Zeiss one of the worst ones - it seems not even one of the design goals)
