Besides, Don and sherry, is there anybody else still service the CL for a decent price? The vf is far off in the vertical plane and i am unable to test the meter (no battery). It is a great body and I would like to put it into good use.
Thanks.

I'll second the recommendation for Sherry. She did a complete overhaul on my CL about 1.5 years ago, and the end result was well worth the price.

Non rectus, non functus.

Well if cost is the main motivation, the rangefinder is adjustable relatively easily. As for the battery, a 1.4V hearing aid battery is easy to get, and you can even buy original PX675 mercury cells on eBay if you want the original. (They are somewhat costly though. A single battery is 8 EUR, a lot of ten is 46 EUR. They last quite long, however; I've had one I got for four euros in my M5 for two years now.)

Personally I would use Sherry as she is the world's leading expert on the CL. But in addition to Essex, mentioned above, you might check with John Maddox at L&J camera repair in Greenville, South Carolina. He did a fine job on my two IIIcs. I don't know if he works on the CL but if you don't find him with Google, I have his number here someplace.

Also Youxin Ye in Boston does Leica work, maybe he can do the CL.

Leica service have never disappointed me and they have very competitive prices (in Europe at least) and they put a warranty on their repairs and fixes
Weincell batteries are the ones recommended by Leica, quite cheap on beebay

I think it may be a bit much to make a world claim LOL or is that like the American world series which is actually USA only? ;) I have heard some inaccurate quotes made by Sherry about the CL so although she has a reputation in the USA for doing alot of CL's I wouldnt go so far as the best in the world, maybe just one of the best possiby. The original poster may like to let us know what country they are in for alternates a bit closer?

Palaeoboy,

Who would you recomend as alternatives to Sherry?

I pray that there are others and I would hope that new ones come to take her place. The more experts we have the better.

Thank you all for the information.
I have contacted a few repairmen I used in the past as well as the ones you guys recommended. They either don't touch the CL or charge around the same as Sherry. I would probably just send to Sherry since she is local and has a very promising turnaround time. I know I will probably end up paying double what I paid for the camera but it is a sweet little gem and I would like to put it into good use.
I will keep you guys posted. Much appreciate everyone's input

Cheers,
Chris

I just got the quote from Sherry. well, $400...
I am going to sell some gear to fund the cla now...

I'll second Sherry as doing fantastic work (M5 for me, no CL). Peter at Luton did an M3 for me- and I was bowled over by the camera when it came back.

I'd also like to chime in with recommending Sherry for CL service -- she just used her 'golden touch' to fix a problem with my camera.

So, I sent the camera to Don for "second opinion". He charged me less than $200 for everything covered (parts, battery conversion, labor, return shipping etc...). I have used him a dozen times in the past with 100% satisfaction.
I will let you guys know in about two weeks.
