Unlike with a 35mm lens, there is enough space around the 50mm framelines for some "wiggle room" - how do you get on?
Who uses the 40mm Summicron-C on an M3?

Not the Summicron but the 40 Nokton. Works very well, in particular if you want to print on 8x10.

Similarly, I've used a variety of 40mm (& a 43mm) lenses on the M3. Works well for me. My approach is to frame less tightly using the 50mm frames while using the outer edges of the VF as the "safety zone" (I wear eyeglasses, BTW).

Not I. No point. The M3 has the best 50mm framelines of any Leica, so I tend to use the 50 and the 90 on it.

So do you just "eyeball" frames for the 75mm? I use an external VF for long distances & eyeball/imagine frames inside the 50mm lines for closer distances.

I use the 40mm sum-c on my M2 all the time and have had no problems. Maybe I'm just not as picky as others in regards to these things, but I tend to just use the 50mm framelines (rather than use the 35mm frames and try to guess what will be cut off) and know I will wind up with a slightly wider image than the one I am seeing--then I crop if need be. It's not a perfect solution, but it works well for me.

From shooting my 75 Lux on a M6 I took notice how the frames for 75 mm has the length and width of the M6 rangefinder patch as an inside border.
Now all I need is 50 mm frames to shoot my 75 Lux. Framing within 50 mm framelines has become second nature.
BTW I also have a M3 DS.

I use the 90mm framelines. I modified the M3 for this (no frame-line lever). 75 compares with 90 like 40 with 50 ....
