Who wants a gold plated Leica R?

Pretty cool realy... And if I had the spare cash. Why not?

It would look great in my glass cabinet.

( My definition of spare cash may be different to yours 😉 )

I wouldn't want one of these unless someone can tell me how it "brasses up" in use??

After all, one would hate to be left with a silly looking camera . . .

It looks like the box is made in Hong Kong.... How uncouth.

Seriously: if I had that much money to waste, I would be surfing Westlicht. The true collectible cameras were not "made to be collectible" but were made and commercially unsuccessful, like the Ektra and the Foton and the Kardon and the Reid and the Ilford Witness.... The Leicas only are collectible because their public image gives them a currency ( if it's Leics it's worth something) now if I came across a B or an FF/GG that's collectible

I have a gold plated Rolleiflex.

I know Leitz made gold commemorative cameras, like the R and M4-P, with gold lenses.

I got the Rollei at the same price as a non-gold.

Maybe if a gold Leica were to happen my way, without the silly surcharge, I'd make a home for it.

Dear David,

And the Hensoldt Reporter and... Indisputably and succinctly expressed, though there were also a few 'limited demand' cameras that were commercially successful in the small numbers in which they were made to fill that limited demand (Luxus, FF, GG, Tessina, Alpa...)

Quote (from memory) from current Alpa Management: "When you start making cameras in funny colours, it suggests that you can't sell them any other way."

Cheers,

R.
