I couldn't find the old thread so I'm posting a new one. Anyway, for those who missed the original thread, we are gathering photogs together to do a shoot in downtown LA. So far there are 6 people (aizan, amaksimchuk, canonetc, parks5920, rodinal addict, excapekey, and me) involved. More is welcome.

Anyway, I just got back from scoping out downtown. The shops ARE open on Sundays and the streets ARE filled with people, so it is on! But I believe they close shop at 5pm. There are also several places to go too besides Grand Central Market area. There is also Alvera Street and China Town. So I don't know what time we should start if you guys want to hit several locations. Anyway, how's Sunday the 19th of June? Is that good for you guys? I know some of you are busy the first two weeks of June, so I think the third week should be fine.

I'm interested in joining future LA area RFF gatherings, though I won't be able to in the immediate future. Do you have a mailing list for the people involved so far, or do I just check back here occasionally?

thanks,
j

hmm...maybe we should just do venice/santa monica

i'd really like to START shooting at 5pm...that's when light is just starting to get interesting...instead of shooting at noon when everything is too bright with hard shadows everywhere

by the way, the reason why i first suggested a group shoot in downtown is because i feel unsafe down there by myself. if we could get a group of maybe 5 or more together, than we could watch each others backs. the area i'm suggesting, grand central market area, is really not a bad place but there is potential of pick pocketers or unfriendly people that you might bump into. places like venice and santa monica, you really don't have that fear of unsafe in those areas.

still interested...downtown LA is cool too...i guess we should just start early before things shut down

I'm in for the 19th, pending a consultation with "She who keeps the calendar". I'll know soon. Aizan, there are good tortilla joints EVERYWHERE in LA. Just look for the places with bars in the windows.

You know, I would think you are joking. Weird thing is... I think its true. What is up with that?

about bars in windows

about bars in windows

as a person from LA, I can say that people that live there or are from there, would assume sincerity immediately. The possibility of bars on windows as being a joke would not even cross their minds. It is a simple fact that the best Mexican restaurant and stands are in areas where a business must have bars in order to make it above the red at bookkeeping time. The best little restaurant in Los Angeles, for Mexican/South American food is a little brazillian cafe - called the Little Brazillian Cafe I believe, and it is on Venice, just before or after the 405 onramp. Get the Executive Lunch with chicken. The beef is sort of toughish - the chicken is to die for. Very authentic Brazillia.

Here I am! Crap, the 19th of June is Father's Day, if I bail on the wife and kids, I will be a father no more! Sounds great though, if you re-schedule let me know. I really wanted to go to that french dip sandwich place down by Union Station to, damn the bad luck.

Hey sorry for the delay DP! I didn't see the thread until today and I've been verrrrrry busy! Sunday the 19th sounds great. I'd be able to be there from anytime in the a.m. until about 4pm. What if we all met for breakfast at some greasy spoon down there...? Or pick a corner....early morning might have a decent share of shadows and light as well as the 5pm suggested by Russ....?

Aw shoot! Just saw your latest thread. I'm shooting a wedding on the 18th. Well, if it ends up being the 18th, please include me on the next one! But I am free on the 19th.

yeah forget the 19th, it's Dad's day. Well please keep me in the loop on the next one. Dang weddings! It might be more fun without pay hanging out with you guys for a shoot!!!

cheers,
